How to make your mail carrier mad
4000 bullets.
(I did unload this out of his truck for him, but he had to load them)

It could have been 70 pounds not 68.
It's called a JOB, that's what they PAY THEM TO DO.

You want to get the post office, and your mail carrier, in a tizzy, order some live bees, which you would use to stock a bee hive. They have to ship via post office, and in a suburban area, they don't get much of that. We got an almost panic'd phone call to come pick them up on our last batch (which ships in a container with mostly screening, so the bees are very visible).

My wife has a rural route....
My wife has a rural route and I think she's seen about everything. Lizards, birds, spiders, snakes and big heavy bullet boxes.
Yes it's their job but I think a hand truck should be standard equipment on their trucks. At least they would be properly equipped.
I just asked my wife and she said unlike UPS a USPS rural carrier can buy their own hand truck.

I must be old fashioned, I realize it's their job but I still appreciate what they do. I even give Christmas gifts to my mail carrier (and paper carrier too). I've had the same mail carrier for almost 20 years. In the summer when I have the big door on my shop open, he'll drive up to the door and deliver my bullet orders right to the shop. He could put them in the mailbox (well, the smaller orders, the 4000 bullet box wouldn't have fit )

All my bigger orders come via UPS, and my local carrier (better known as Sienna Claus ) is used to my heavy packages. The last time I got a bullet order in, he said he didn't even look at the address, he knew who it was for!
He gets a nice gift-wrapped bottle every December.

So which bullets you got there Bkreutz?
I receive orders of alloy & ship orders of bullets so my carrier knows me well. He does have back problems so I tell him if he's hurtin' or the weather is bad to leave the lead at the PO & I'll pick it up myself. He's a great guy.

I met my mail carrier though a large bullet shipment. I was out cutting the grass. She drove up and said she had something heavy for me. Said she really couldn't ask, but.... "what the heck is THAT?" We ended up having a good talk about handloading.

What is the discount for employees when you order through their website ?
What I heard was a rumor that you are now employed as one of those door greeters at WallyWord.

Funny. Didn't quite reach 68lbs, but 230gr x 1k and 115gr x 1k bullets, plus a few other items, arrived here on Friday hitting the scale at 53lbs.
Driver normally leaves packages at front door (one flight up), but this one was casually left just inside the ground-level open garage door lol.
I don't blame her at all

The rumor is false, Wal-Martians give me the creeps, I don't go near one of those places, whatever disease they have might be contagious.

I recently got a new carrier and "she" wrote nearly everyone up for mailboxes not being in proper height specs. Odd, seeing as it was good enough for the old carrier for 19 years. Maybe I should order 4000 230 grain LRNs for Xmas!

It's within the rules as long as it's less than 75 pounds. "If it fits it ships".

Don't think 4000 230gr would be under 75#, 4000 115gr were 68#, probably should drop the order to 2000

Better yet, you'd give her 2x 65lb packages . . . one for each hand

At least your carrier will deliver. Mine just leaves a note in the mailbox saying I have "heavy" packages to pick up at the post office - never even loads the boxes onto the truck to attempt delivery. "If it fits, it ships" doesn't mean they're actually going to bring it to your house, apparently. Have had this happen almost every time I order bullets.

I recently took delivery of 8k lead bullets.
I found two boxes like that and another about half that size on my porch.
Another recent delivery was 10k (target) 22LR rounds. That too, was pretty heavy.

I ordered a 65 lb box of lead last week - stopped at the post office and told them to let me know when it comes in and I'll pick it up there. We live in the country and our lady carrier offered to deliver it - I wouldn't think of it personally. "Their job" or not, there's some things I won't ask a lady to do . . . but then again, I take my hat off in a restaurant, open the door for a woman and still walk onthe road side of the sidewalk when walking with a lady. :-) Another week, and I'll have another two 65 pound boxes arriving . . . and I'll pick those up as well.

Regulations specify mailboxes are to be 42"-48" above the curb. If your old mail carrier went 19 years without correcting those infractions he/she was not doing the job properly. The regulations exist for the safety and security of the mail and employees as well. I wonder what else your old carrier failed to do.

Yep, that will "upset" the mail carrier alright.

I live a ways out of town. My rural mail carrier delivers my heavy boxes of lead ingots up my driveway to my house 1/10 of a mile. He honks his horn and I bring the 2wheel dolly. I think he see's it as job security..........

Me too........unless the restaurant is too cool, no hair here. I still treat the ladies like ladies & elders like elders.

I had one carrier for many years and got extraordinary service. He retired and my carrier seems to be random. Some are very senior women who couldn't lift my bullet boxes at all. This is just another example of the USPS mess. They want package biz so they start and promote Priority Mail and give weight limits some carriers can't handle. Then they don't even give them the equipment they need to move the heavy stuff.
I feel sorry for the carriers who work for such a poor management. I had a friend who finally quit his job as a carrier because his rage at management was scary.

If a mail carrier can buy a handcart to make their job easier and safer they should do it. It would seem to be a tool of the trade and portable so they could use it at home, on the job or for recreation such as hauling shooting equipment at the range or baseball equipment at game time. My mail carrier is a small woman and I help her with heavy packages if I am home at time of delivery. Delivery time is not consistent though.

If a carrier buys equipment to use on their job, they would probably get screwed over if they got hurt. Remember, USPS is a quasi-gubmint entity.

My local usps office had me go to make pickup multiple times for heavy items. The carrier usually only weighs about 100 pounds wet. So when skinny and the fat delivery man (obese) is on route many items over 45 pounds is pickup at local office.
Sigh. Weak people ! LOL !
