Hornady LNL AP rifle rotor - blemish in machining
I just installed a micrometer measure in my handgun rotor and when I went to put the "screw style" measure into the parts box that contains the never used rifle rotor I noticed a blemish in the machining. Is this severe enough that I should have Hornady replace it? I will be using it once I can find some rifle powder

I'd use it. It is too small to be a problem.

That little itsy bitsy spot?
I am no machinist but it does not appear to be a problem. After using the rotor you will probably have more scratches and lines .

I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe, if it were in the actual powder chamber, but not where it is.

Hmmm, a follow up post is missing and I know it didn't break any rules
The photo may not do the "imperfection" justice. When you run a finger nail along the spot, it's actually a scrape/"gouge" in the rotor. Given this operates and seals based on machined surfaces, I was concerned!
I also didn't want to damage the other surface, like putting a scored piston back in a cylinder!

I have a RCBS (old) that came with two rotors. I looked at mine and yes they are smooth as a baby's bottom.
If the defect is more than what it seems in the pic, just call Hornady they have excellent service (gee, as good as the Blue guys ) They will fix or replace it. I would think it would fit in the small USPS flat rate box so shipping is like $5 back to them.

If they agree it could carry powder around and if you offer to email them a photo, they will likely ship one without even requiring the return.

And I'm NOT complaining nor tossing grenades!!!!!
I think it may be more relationship/trust building with a "new customer". It's my first "repair request" although I have called in a few times with some setup questions. I'm told they do a pretty thorough job of tracking customer interactions and equipment when they are called and do look for patterns of "abuse". Again, I have no problems with that because it always seems like a few ruin good things for the many! Saw that happen with Costco/Sams return policies a few years ago when "members of a certain generation" abused their policy to upgrade TVs and then bragged about it on well known blogs!

Perhaps you're right.
My first call resulted in a complete lower assembly for the AP being shipped to me without requiring any return. They said they had become aware of an issue that could cause the problem I was seeing.
Maybe in that case the parts were too heavy/bulky to bother with the return either for verification or reuse.
