Man, this stuff costs close to $50 a pound out here in Hawaii. I had high hopes that it would work great in my 9mm. But, unfortunately it doesn't work well with my situation.

I was wondering if you guys have any pet loads with N320 or N350 in .38, .357 or .45?

Thank you,
Dave

For 45 I'm going to assume 45 acp and not Colt.

4.6gr N320 under a 230gr coated LRN from Bayou, 1.250 OAL

Does about 170PF out of my 5" 1911

Thank you very much. Yes 45 acp. How was the accuracy?

Did you ever try with 200 gr lead? I have some LSWC on hand.

Thanks again,
Dave

N350 is a bit slow but I use it with 185 RNHB Berrys for pin shoots. Makes about 180 PF with 9 GR and a bit of gas for the comp.

320 is a lot like 231, but there are cheaper powders that are just as good. (VV is expensive here on the mainland too). 350 is normally used in open class major calibers, the most popular being in the .38 super comp. (BTW it's not a good idea to mix 38 super comp brass in a batch of 9mm, this happened yesterday:eek::D)

N320 probably makes the cleanest 9mm load you can get, it's pricey but well worth it IMO.

I use a max load of 4.4 grains of N320 using 115gr fmj-rn bullets as follows:
Speer 1.130 COL
Remington's 1.120 COL
Sierra's and Hornady's @ 1.100 COL

Any of these four loads perform nearly identically in chronograph testing and make a nice, clean accurate full power load that cycle even the finicky small 3" class 9mm's.

You can expect to see the 1,150 FPS range from 4" guns.

For N 320 in 45acp try 4.0 -4.2 with 200SWC , 5.2 with 230FMJ & in 38 spec 148 HBWC try 2.8 - 2.9 . N 350 for 38 spec 158SWC up to & including 38/44 loads .

Thanks guys. I've tried the N320 and N350 in my Kart barreled 1911. That barrel only likes 147 grain bullets. The chamber requires a COL of 1.130 with the 147 flat nose bullets I've tried (Speer, Montana Gold, Precision Delta). Unfortunately, at the starting published loads I'm getting flat primers. I'm guessing it's because my COL is shorter than what VV suggests at 1.142. I know Hornady's book says to use 1.10 COL with the 147 gr XTP but their starting load is much lower compared to what VV publishes in N350. Unfortunately, I've given up on N320 and N350 with my 9mm that I'm loading for. I know they are great powders so I'm hoping to find a good use for them in other calibers.
Thanks for the input,
Dave

I started using N320 recently for 380 ACP. Bullets are 100gr Penn leads, Hornady 115gr XTP and 115gr FMJ.
Burns pretty clean. Also use Bullseye and Unique.
Burn a few grains of each on a flat surface.

Accuracy was good from what I remember, around 2-3" @ 25 yards, which is the best I can muster.

Never tried with anything other than 230gr RN since it's all I shoot.

Lyman's 49th has data for 200gr and 185gr JHPs in 45acp.
I will be trying it on some 185gr lswc target loads soon.
Data for the 38 SPL as well.
Will get to that as well when I finish with the 380acp.

try 4 grs of N320 in .38 Spl with a 158 grs lead SWC bullet - works perfect for me

try 5 grs of N320 in .45 ACP with a 200 grs lead/copper plated TC bullet - perfect as well in a 1911

not many chances of getting good accuracy in 9mm with N320, sharp kick with end-of-the-line loads, but no accuracy. I switched over to N340: 4.7 grs with a 125 grs lead/copper plated RN, great accuracy, perfectly reliable, no sharp kick. N350 should work as well

My $ 0.02 :
No expeerrience with VV N-350 (yet), but my favorites are :
VV N-320 : .38Spl/158gr SWC : 4.5 gr
.44Spl/220gr HBWC : 4.1 gr
.45 Colt ("long")/200gr RN : 8.1 gr
.45 Colt ("long")/225gr TC : 7.4 gr
.45 ACP /200gr RN : 5.2 gr

VV N-340 :.44Spl/180gr : 8.8gr
.44Spl/220gr HBWC : 5.3 gr
. 45 Colt ("long")/ 225 gr TC : 7.9 gr (light target load)
8.5 gr (+/- factory equivalent)
9.7 gr (very accurate)

For 45acp target loads using 185 LSWC , 200 LSWC & 185 jacketed SWC or JHP N 310 will give better results . N 320 works best in 45acp with 230 FMJ or in 38 special 148 HBWC or 158 RN / SWC loads . For 9mm 115 JHP or FMJ N 330 or N 340 works better . N 340 also 3.6grs in 38 special 148 HBWC works quite well . To wring the best out of 9mm one needs new brass , consistent case length / crimp & quality jacketed bullets . Case in point the Berretta M9 will only shoot well @ 50yds with a 1 in 32 twist KKM barrel & either Hornady 115 XTP's or Sierra 115 FMJ's as the AMU & USMC have found . Faster twist factory barrels will do OK with 147gr bullets . I am not aware of any 9mm lead load that will give consistent target grade accuracy . It's much easier to make target quality ammo in either 45acp or 38 special .

Use N-350 for upper range loads and jacketed bullets in 45 acp. Particularly 230 jhp's. Also use it for mid range 200 jhp loads in 44 special, but nothing in 44 special that unique doesn't do as well/cheaper.
