Well my Academy now has Tula Primers and I was wondering if they are a viable solution. What do you prefer primer wise.

Tula are fine, Wolff are fine, they all go bang. Scroll down to the bottom of this thread and there are some similar threads.

If you have very light hammers in handguns then you want soft Federals.

I have been using Wolff for a long time since I stocked up on them, For range blasting they work fine. I just got an ad from Natchez they have all the brands if you want something like Winchester.

I purchased 10,000 spm primers last year and had a 6% misfire rate and it didn't matter whether I used them in my 357 rifle or one of the 6 357 revolvers that I have. I contacted Tula and was given a full refund. I would not buy them again.

I have one S&W revolver (38 spcl) that has trouble with Tulas but it does strike very light so I use them in other revolvers (Colts) and my semi autos with no problems at all. I would buy them any time I have the opportunity.

Tulas have worked well for me, small for 9mm, large for 45 ACP.

After 3,000 rounds later through seven different 45 ACP 1911s I have not had a primer issue. There are 17K more Tula primers sitting on my shelf.

I like tula primers fine. Have not experienced any problems with them.

Maybe I got a couple of bad lots. The Tula rep didn't question my request for a refund at all.

They are harder to seat & need a good whack to go off reliable. Not a problem for me. I would not shoot them in a serious meet. If you have a light hammer fall they will give a problem. Tula & Wolf are made in the same plant.

They can be harder to seat for pistol but I don't notice that for rifle primers. Reliability has been excellent for me.

I have an almost predictable experience with Tula/Wolf loaded ammo and the tula primers.

1 out of 50 will fail to fire.

Over the past 5 years I've purchased 10,000 Tula and 20,000 Wolf primers, both small and large pistol. More than half have been loaded and fired with zero malfunctions and I can't tell the difference between these and thousands of Remington, Winchester, and Magtech primers fired over the same period. Cost for the Russian primers averaged about $21/thousand delivered.

What do you guys think is a fair price for the Tula primers. Academy has them for $2.99/100

When and where in the World did you get those prices?

I have only fired a couple thousand rounds between Wolf and Tula primers, no issues yet other than they are usually covered in green primer residue. Be sure to clean out your primer pickup tubes often or risk having an issue. I just cleaned my SP tube last week and got enough green gunk out of it to make up at least 2-3 live primer. Keep in mind lead styphnate is highly sensitive to impact and static.

I load their KV-24N Berdan primer into brass and steel 7.62x39 cases. The Lee Autoprime seats them just fine without modification. No problems yet.

I loaded 1000 of their large pistol primers into mixed .45 ACP brass. They are a little tougher to seat the Dillon 650 makes short work of them. I don't remember if I ever fired these or set them aside for the rainy day.

Am using the Tula 7.62 Nato Berdans in .308 surplus cases. Pretty much the only choice for Berdan. They seem to be of at least a magnum "hotness"

They were bought in 3 separate orders of 10,000 each. The Wolf's were from Wideners at $17.50/1000 in 2008, then at $22.50/1000 in 2009 and the Tula's were a special from Powder Valley in December 2010 - $20/1000 including Hazmat and shipping (10,000 minimum). The Powder Valley deal was especially good because you could add powder with no additional Hazmat or shipping fees. I got 8 pounds of HP-38 and 4 pounds of Power Pistol for an additional $160!

Interestingly, you can almost duplicate these primer prices today. Graf's is selling S&B small pistol primers for $109.99/5000. If you bought 20,000, that's less than $24/1000 delivered.

I started using the Russian primers 10 years ago, when they were imported in the original Russian packaging by a guy in Arizona. They work fine.
