N105 powder

N105 is a very slow powder, listed as being between Blue Dot and 2400. Not a good choice for the 9mm, but I can't say that there could not be some application for it, such as with the heaviest 9mm bullets. 231 is much better for 9mm. Might work best in .357, probably marginal in the other calibers. VV loading data should be consulted.

N105 is the absolute best powder for full power .38 Super loads. Other than that, I have found no use for it.

I have lots of 231 and going to trade a pound for a pound. Thought it might work good for full on magnum loads.

It works extremely well.
I just got through telling my buddy, it makes 38 super feel, and sound like a full power 357
I have used it in 38 super, and 357. Not 44 yet
It works very well. Did not chrono, but it will get your attention

Thanks for the information. I guess I will give it a try.

You won't be disappointed.
You need to go to VV site, and download their manual.
There are a few loadings in other manuals, but not many.
I might try it in 9mm later on, I believe it would work.
45, not so much.
It is a very powerful powder, and very good accuracy.
As said above it is great in 38/357/38 super, but I am sure it will work in others.
Have fun

As well I could only find data on VV site. Looks like it would not be a good thing to try reducing loads with it.

you have 231 for reduced loads.
N105, is for waking up the dead.
If I remember right 10.9 grains in a 38 super, with a 124, give 1589fps, and I believe that is close..
Feels just like a 357 on tilt.
It will wake up a 357 too
I am not a VV guy, so this is coming from a guy that USUALLY likes 2400, H110. There is something different about 105. Its impressive.

I like "waking up the dead." :) That's my morning chuckle today.

To the OP, if you have xs 231 to trade, I would give it a whirl. 231 has been hard to find. Yet, VV powders are a bit pricey. Sounds like a win/win trade for you and your buddy

Waking the dead...ala 500s&w. Excellent for that. Very clean with manageable recoil using 400gr Sierra fp. Don't have my data with me it is in storage but velocity was excellent.

A friend of mine likes it in .40 S&W with 200gr bullets. I'm hesitant to try that in my Sigs. Don't see the need.

38 Super: 10.4 grains (max) N105 w/124 will give you an honest 1,410 fps from a 5 inch 1911. No stress, all day long. Their website's claim of 1,500 optimistic (it is a longer, test barrel).

Years ago, the VV website listed max of 11.0 grains, but has since backed off to 10.4 max. I have tested beyond 10.4, and found little increase in velocity over what I get from 10.4. So no reason to go over 10.4.

My choice for 9X23mm Winchester (essentially a rimless .38 Super) is 8.7 grains of AA#5 and a 124 grain bullet. It has a MV in the mid-1400s. I would not load it in a .38 Super case, but the 9X23 case is much more strongly built, also has a slightly lower case capacity. That load works fine in my two .38 Super pistols (a Colt GM and an EAA Witness).

N105 is a little faster than 2400, burns clean, and can be loaded at fairly low pressure if needed.
I am using it in 44 Special for Skeeter type (900-1Kfps) loads.
12 grains under a cast 240 or a jacketed 210 is about max.
I feel it has a much wider range of applications than the VV manual would indicate.

Well made the trade with a good guy though feel like I cheated him as the 231 cost me $21.00 less than the 105 cost him. But he was happy with it so that's that.
Been looking at VV load data and it only lists a couple loads for 9mm and a couple for 357 mag. Nothing for 38 special. Are there some other loads listed elsewhere for this powder as I'm new at this?

Look at the book again.. 10.9 is max. Just looked it up before posting my data.
I stopped at 10.0, as it was excellent, and accurate.
I believe they used a 5", or 5 1/2" barrel. Either way.. It cooks in a 38 super

Don't want to be a dead horse, but in the new manual this is the description of the calibers they use it for.
N105 Super Magnum
Slow burning handgun powder filling the gap between N350
and N110. Especially developed for handgun cartridges with
heavy bullets and/or large case volume. Reloading data is
currently available for the following cartridges: 9x21 mm, .38
Super Auto, .357 Magnum, 357 Remington Maximum, .40
S&W, 10 mm AUTO, .41 Remington Magnum, .44 Remington
Magnum, .45 Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum and .454 Casull.

Picked up a pound yesterday to try in 10mm, .41 mag and .44 mag.
little on the slow side for .38 but has some good numbers for the magmums.

.41 cal
