Titegroup for 9mm
Any opinions, experience and recipe regarding Titegroup pistol powder for 9mm 124 grain X-treme Copper plated round nose bullets? I'll using a M&P Shield.
I tried CFE pistol and it works great but I also have some Titegroup I would like to try.
Thanks...

Would not be my choice. Some guys use it but I think it is too fast a powder for the 9mm (high pressure) Do not even own any!

I use Titegroup for 9mm. It has been just fine for me.
I used Xtreme's 124gr RN and I didn't like them. They didn't shoot well for me. I use now a 124gr RN from Zero Bullets.
EDIT: tim c below states he uses 3.8gr of Titegroup. That's what I use and it works out fine.

I TRIED IT FOR 50YD MATCH 9MM. SHOT GREAT AT FIRST BUT FOULED OUT TOO QUICKLY. DRAMATIC ACCURACY DROP AT 50 YDS AFTER LESS THAN 100 RDS. I FOUND WSF TO BE A MUCH BETTER 9MM POWDER FOR MY PURPOSE. JP

I use Titegroup for loading my 500S&W mag and really like it. Hodgden's site has the loading info your looking for.....

Could you elaborate on the issue you had with Xtreme's bullets?

They just didn't group well for me. I dropped them a time or two on concrete and the plating scratched off. It made me wonder what was going on in the barrel. (i.e. if it comes off that easily when dropped won't it scrape off when traveling down the barrel?)
It wasn't anything very data oriented.....I just emotionally didn't care for them. Additionally a LGS sells the Zero Bullets very reasonably so I just decided to go with those.
I know the Xtreme's (and other plated bullets) work very well for lots of folks. They just weren't a match for me.

Titegroup and Bullseye shoot fine in my 9mm 5 inch CORE using Rainier and Xtreme 124 FPs. At 4.0 grains for each, the Titegroup seems to have a little sharper recoil. The Bullseye velocity is 1050, have not measured the Titegroup yet.
At IDPA distances, the Bullseye and Titegroup, Rainier and Xtreme seem about the same to me.

otisrush,
Thanks for your insight into Xtreme bullets. I appreciate it, the more info the better. I'm going to give Titegroup a shot to see how it does.

I often wondered if the plating scrapes off when traveling down the barrel. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on some higher quality bullets just to try them out.

I'm on my third box (of 500) of the Xtreme 124gn RN. All shot through my Shield. I've used Titegroup, Bullseye, and W231. My current load of TG is 3.8gn. cuz that's what gets dropped by the Auto-Disk measure. OAL 1.140. Slow fire at 10 yards I can keep 10 out of 10 in a 4in circle, and I'm averaging 8.5 out of 10 in a 3in circle. Double tap I can keep 'em all on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper at 10 yards. Good enough for me. I haven't noticed any significant difference in accuracy with any of the three powders that I've used with this bullet. Now .45 ACP is a whole different story.

In the shield i actually like the X-treme 115gr. the best but the 124 has worked really well all the calibers i reload for i like the X-treme bullets the best as long as your not pushing them over 1500fps i think they are the finest CP bullets on the market of course that is only my opinion

I have shot Xtreme bullets in 9mm, 38spl, 45acp and 44mag with pleasant results.
Currently I am using Titegroup with Xtreme 124gr RNFP @ 3.8-3.9gr charge in a Beretta 92FS. No issues, shoots fine.
If you look closely at Xtreme's website on 9mm you will see they offer an HP designated bullet with CB. HP is for 'Heavy Plated' and CB is for 'Concave Base' these are rated at higher velocities and may the answer to anyone concerned about a thinner plating. Personally I have not had any of the standard bullets shed any plating as it normally shows on paper targets as something less than a clean hole.
A gentle taper crimp on the 9mm's is all I use, don't over do it.

I load 45ACP with Tightgroup and shoot it from the 1911.. What I like most is the economy. A little bit goes a long way.
One poster here said he is fouling barrels after hundreds of rounds. Think about that for a second. This power burns very very fast and it burns hot. I suppose during that process it could start collecting inside the barrel. Being that is the case and this poster is pushing the numbers that high. I would like to know it there is a primer that may be affecting this or ambient temperature in some small way. We can count ourselves lucky to have this shared here.

Yep! When I was researching reloading for this Beastie I decided I wanted something similar to the Winchester Reduced Recoil 350gr round and the Titegroup gives me a very nice, accurate round using either Berrys Plated 350gr SN bullets or the Hornady 350gr XTP JHP's.. With 12.2gr of Titegroup the round is producing about 1100fps which is what I want....

My Lyman #4 Cast Bullet manual lists Titegroup at 3.4-3.8 grs with a
124 gr cast bullet.

4.2gr. of Titegroup + Hornady 115gr. XTP bullet = Shield goodness.
I just bought 2 more pounds of Titegroup the other day - that was the first time I'd seen any in a year.

I'm using 4.2 gr of Titegroup with the 124gr Extreme, loading it a little on the long side but still within SAAMI specs. Shoot it out of my M&P 9 C and have no complaints.

I have pushed the 124gr RN Xtreme to 1149-1201 in my 3.5"
with one slow powder and did not have any copper particles in my paper targets,
that were at 12 feet, behind my chrony.
Top average for my bullseye powder was 1050 for the 124gr.
but it did much better in the accuracy game at just 945 fps
being the best out of eight powders tested. (no TG )
A longer OAL really helped the groups shrink, in my weapons.
If you can go to a oal of 1.16", give a few a try. I never went
shorter than 1.12" with the "X" bullets.
Good luck.
