AK - Reddish colored Brass ?
Went shooting with a buddy. He was shooting his AK . The brass was a reddish color , almost bronze looking. He said he bought it in the early nineties and it was cheep Chinese ammo . Wanted to know if it is reloadable ? Any thoughts ?

Steel cases with Berdan primers. It's not reloadable by any common methods.

Things you can check for .
Use a magnet to make sure it's actually brass and not just brass/copper washed steel. If it's not magnetic, it's probably good to reload.
check the primer hole to see if it has two holes or just one. If two holes, then it probably berdan primed and not easily reloadable.

I happen to have some of that ammo. Mine for the most part is older what they called hollow point "hunting" ammo. When I had my shop back in Md I sold many of the ol Chinese SKS rifles to guys hunting Sika Deer down in the Dorchester county marshes. When I say marsh..oh yeah. They always seemed to work and Sika deer are small. A large Bull might weigh 125 lbs. Sika's are diminutive Japanese elk that can run through muck. I have actually reloaded some of that ammo. Just as an exercise you understand as I have also loaded some aluminum pistol cases and WWII steel 45's. More work than it is worth. But I happened to have some Alcan Berdan primers from a Loooonnnngggg time ago.

I find a lot of 7.62x54 like that laying around shooting spots in the mountains around here. Evidently the Nagant has become popular in these parts. Sure looks like copper but they are definitely ferrous. They jump right up and run after a magnet.

A lot of Combloc "brass" looking ammo is copper washed steel case. Basically the same as other steel cases except instead of using lacquer to protect the steel they plate it with a very thin layer of copper. Cases are berdan primed and really only good for scrap, breaking decapping pins, and the apocalypse if you can get a hold of berdan primers.
