Swaged 148 Grain HBWC By Zero Bullets
Does anyone have any experience with these swaged .38 HBWC's ? I've used the ones from Speer and Hornady with good results but haven't tried these from Zero Bullets . Nice price . $77.00 shipped per thousand .

If you're talking about the ones with the black lube, I've shot a bunch of them, although not recently. No problems with them.
Cheers,

No those with the black lube are SWC's . Going by the pics on Roze Dist. the HBWC's come with an amber colored lube .

THE 148GR HBWC ZERO'S ARE EXCELLENT BULLETS. 2.7 GR WST AND LOOK OUT, WILL HOLD X RING AT 50YDS FROM RANSOM REST.
THE 158GR SWC ARE GREAT ALSO.
THE 185GR 45 JHP. IS AN EXCELLENT 50 YD BULLET ALSO.

I buy several bullets including the 148 HBWC from Zero. Price, service and quality are all excellent. I love those perfect little circles the HBWC makes.

I decided to try both the Zero and Speer 148 gr. HBWC. The Zero bullets are sized .357 and the Speer bullets .358. I've used 2.7 gr. to 2.9 gr. of Bullseye with both bullets.
I've seated them flush or a little above the case mouth. No crimp to a light crimp in two different brands of brass. I just found some W-W wadcutter brass and will try those.
Shooting five shot groups over sandbags at 25 yards. My best group so far is the one pictured.
If you would like some of each send me a PM and I'll send you some.
The Zero bullets are on the left. I'm trying to tighten up my groups any input would be appreciated.

When I shot PPC, the department team shot Speer, Hornaday, Remington and Zero bullets, depending on what we could get. It took a machine rest test to tell any difference, and even then ranking varied from gun to gun and was small. I liked Remington because when the department bought us match ammo, it was Remington, but if there was a practical difference, it was all in my head.

Here's some classified information for getting top accuracy from HBWCs.
Try using a Lee Factory Crimp Die for the .38 Special (with seating stem removed) or Lee .38 Super Undersized Sizing Die for sizing your wadcutter brass. Expand sized cases with a Wadcutter Expander (available from RCBS) and taper crimp. You don't need much case tension with HBWCs.
I use Remington HBWCs but have gotten good results with the HBWCs from Magnus (they look like dead ringers for the Zero Brand).
Bullet: Remington 148 gr. HBWC
Powder: Alliant Bullseye 2.8 grs.
Primer: Federal 100 Small Pistol Match
Case: Remington Wadcutter
LOAL: 1.185
Comments: Cases resized using Lee Factory Crimp Die with seating stem removed and taper-crimped.
You can actually use unsized brass with the Remington bullets but I like to run them through a Lee Die.
A ten shot groups off-hand at 25 yards
I'm a mediocre shot who wears bi-focals so I must be doing something right!
Here's another one that shoots well.
Bullet: Magnus 148 gr. HBWC
Powder: VihtaVuori N310 2.6 grs.
Primer: Federal 100 Small Pistol Match
Case: Federal .38 Special
LOAL: 1.200

What exactly do you aim at with that kind of target? I think that's too big for center of mass to give best results.

With the Aristocrat Rib I use a neck hold on the target. It's set to drop the bullets into the center of the target.

The first question, the center of mass which usually isn't marked on a person so you aim for the middle. Too big? That looks excellent for defensive shooting at 25 yards. Kidding...right??? It looks like the group would fit under a teacup.
PS I presume the $77 is the price/thousand.

Hornady and Speer suck in comparison.
Best I have found are the Remington 148gn L-HBWCs.

Zero question
Is the lube on the Zero bullets smokey when fired.
I shoot indoors so I run plated bullets.
Plated DEWC's have not been an accurate choice in my gun.
So I want to try some wadcutters, cast or swaged.
I've used the Remingtons and they shoot perfectly but are messy to load.
Is the Zero bullet lube suitable for indoor range use?

I'll take "shoot perfectly" every day and don't care about messy.
Really, I don't seem to gather a lot on my hands and it wipes and washes right off.
DEWCs and such don't compare in terms of accuracy, but they can be loaded above 800 fps.
Plated wadcutters were about as good as a cylinder bore 12 ga.
You shoot wadcutters for accuracy, so you shoot the ones that are most accurate. Those may be Zero or Magnus or whatever, but in my M52s, it has been Rem all the way.
