Just wondering if sizeing commercial (Berry"s) plated 38 wadcutters to 356 would enhance accuracy/function ib the S&W Model 52. For that matter do any plated bullets benefit from this extra step?

I TRIED IT WITH 45 BULLETS FOR 50 YD ACCURACY. IT WAS A WASTE OF TIME. IT DIDN'T HELP. JP

P.S. I KNEW A HIGH MASTER BULLSEYE SHOOTER WHO RESIZED FACTORY REMINGTON 148GR HBWC BULLETS (PRIOR TO LOADING) FOR HIS MODEL 14 AND 52 WITH GOOD RESULTS. SHRUNK THE GROUP AT 50 YDS. JP

I use the double-struck Berry for .38, and there is no point in resizing them; they are remarkably consistent. They are factory sized before and again after plating.

The M 52 was not really designed for plated or jacketed bullets.

Unless you have no choice and are shooting in a lead free zone.

I understand that, but I need to avoid smoke for alergenic reasons. I have the gun and want to shoot it with less side affects. S&W used a basic 9mm barrel to creat this target gun and 356 bullets have performed well for me. I also have an original Star Sizer that I'm trying to justify keeping. Just thinking out lowd here. Thanks for your reply!

Most plated bullets come in .355, .356 and a few in .357" dia.

I never needed anything larger than the 135gr or 147gr .356 dia. in my weapons,
to get accuracy at target speeds.

38 also come in many sizes...........

Just try a few to see what dia. your pistol likes..........
most companies will sell a 100 test pack if you ask.

However with the 52 I would use just the 148 LEAD bullet.

I find Berry's bullets to be very accurate in both revolvers I load them in. More accurate than any of us are.

Perhaps try coated lead bullets, no smoke.
.358 or ,357 Unless you really want to use your resizer;)

I've never resized any Berry's plated bullets since they're great the way they are in my revolvers

I use 45cal Berry's in Model 1955,25-2,25-5 and 625-2 with excellent results.

I just stocked up with more Berry's with a Cabelas purchase yesterday while they're still on sale.

1x250 250gr FP
4x250 200gr SWC
1x250 185gr HBRN
1x250 185gr FP
1x250 185gr SWC

While I was there I also bought 1lb of BE-86 to try out plus 2K Federal GM Match LP Primers.

I haven't tried any of the Berry's Lead Bullets but may order a box or 2 online

I've never reloaded for a 52 nor have i resized any plated bullets but it might help. I wouldn't expect much of a difference but I can't imagine it would hurt anything unless you're shrinking the bullets so that they are smaller than the barrel diameter.

I won't say you can't resize plated bullets down. I strongly suggest you give Berry a call and discuss the idea with them. My concern is lead will resize down and stay there; copper plating may well spring back toward its' original diameter. Theoretically separation of lead and plating may occur.
