I need input on 375Win heavy loads. Have experience with both
220 and 250 Jsp, 250 cast. Interested in jacketed full power
loads only. In Jackets have always used IMR-3031 or 4198. Am
Planning to shoot Speer 235 semi-spitzer, to see if it will outshot
Fn bullets. Shooting from Ruger#3. Any info welcome, not fun
to shoot off bench. Rifle strictly for Deer, to 200yds. With 3x
glass.just got rifle & bruise.

My notes tell me that the 235 Speer will use 31 to 35gr of IMR 3031. Data is from Speer. Other powders will deliver fast loads, but I've found IMR 3031 to be incredibly accurate in the straight walled cases. However, at dawn and dusk there is a big flash!

Brother in-law and I both have one.

They don't need to be loaded to maximum to take deer at 200 yards.
My problem would not ne load data...............
My problem would be finding brass cases!!

Good loading.

Though I had a 375 I never loaded a round in the caliber. Been cleaning up around here and found a die set 16 once fired cases and a fellow gave me a partial box of Sierra 200 gr Flat nose jacketed bullets. I also still have 2 boxes of Win factory loads..Course the rifle is gone. The darn thing was too light and kicked pretty bad..shot one deer with it...at maybe 60 ft.

I too have been going by Speer data on IMR-3031 & 4198. Was
hoping someone had used something hotter. Actually in Ohio
the average shot is around 40yds, in the woods. We are just into
2 yrs of Rifle season. I can't count the big bucks I have seen
standing in the end of a hayfield or on opposite ridge. Totally out
of the question for a slug. Just got 100 new cases and 120 1st
fire. Set me back about $150. Was using 30/30s blow out in
a Marlin, loaded at 38/55 levels. Traded Marlin for the 3, to wind
out the 375w. to touch off a occasional long shot. I am just now
working on loads, will not sacrifice accuracy for velocity.

I'm thinkin' that if you need heavy loads in your .375 Win, you might consider getting a .375 H&H. I down load mine to 38-55 levels and it makes one heck of a 100 yard deer gun.

What I'm trying to do is get the flattest shooting load for the
375W. This will allow me to make the occasional long shot, that
had been out of the question before we had rifle season. I have
little experience with 375w and Spitzer bullets. I have lots of
235g Speers, Left from my 375h&h. 375h&h is not legal for
deer in Ohio. I was inquiring if anyone had any heavy load data
for 375w, other than what I stated in original post. This rifle
and loads is for Ohio deer season only.

Well it's kinda like having a 44 mag in place of a 44 special or 357 in place of a 38. He can use a straight case to hunt with..and wants something to shoot a little flatter than the arch of a rainbow...so he can find gold at the end of the shot. To be really honest there are no straight wall rifle cases that shoot flat enough to not have to use Kaintucky windage and elevation out farther... But I guess the 375 comes the closest. It is actually a pretty good cartridge. I have a Contender 14 incher in 357 Rem Max that is good out to 200 yds with a 180 gr bullet...and it shoots the old Rem 150 gr SPCL 35 Rem pointy bullet real well too. If you can find some...but I am down to one box of 50 of those left. Given to me(3 of them) by a Remington Rep many years ago. When I lived on the Eastern Shore of Md(slug country) I went to using a Savage Smokeless powder muzzleloader. A one shooter but it is seriously good to 250 yds for one shot kills. My daughter still has the 11-87 slug gun back there.. It was and is easily good for 150 yds or a bit more with those expensive darn slugs.

Back in the 90's I had a .375 Win T/C Contender that was awesome. I found an Accurate brand powder that made it sizzle from a 15" barrel.

Looking online, Accurate doesn't even list the .375 Win caliber now. I remember getting surprising velocity with excellent accuracy.

Don't rely on my memory, but I'm pretty sure it was a compressed load of 1680?

I did blow the muzzle brake about 30 yard down range with this load. For the record, the factory brakes were poorly attached.

Skeet is right on the mark, I'm looking to take the most bow out
of the rainbow I can. I figure the spitzer bullet will help. In Ohio
we are stuck with straight case cartridges. I hunted 54 yrs with
slugs, 90%+ of shots are 40yd. When you see a deer out in the
open at 200yds, that is not a shot with a slug. Even a 30/30 or
35Rem, 200yds is practical shot. I have shot mostly 220g Fn
but most every thing I have shot, including cast, grouped well
at 100yds. Got 4 boxes of Sierra 200g, haven't tried in Ruger
yet. I think that any 375 bullet is enough to down a deer, and
it is not possible to take all the rainbow out of a straight case
cartridge. Shooting and sighting these cartridges at known
distances of a bench show the accuracy they are capable of.
In the field, at unknown distances , with seconds to take the
shot, is not the same thing.
