Reload for 44 mag Unique powder?

All my books don't show a workup load for my S&W 629 in 6" barrel, just looking to put some rounds downrange and not have the magnum kick...lol
I have Unique powder, Extreme 200 gr copper plated bullets, Federal mag and std primers, what would be a good workup for this? Thanks all!

Ive used anywhere from 7 grains to 10 grains with a 240 gr hard cast bullet.7gr is quite mild and 10 had some oomph to it

I too use about 8 grains of Unique behind a 240 grain lead SWC bullet for a very pleasant shooting load. Although I haven't chronographed this load, I'm sure that it would made an ideal SD round.

Well bbl length really has nothing to do with. Use starting 200gr jacketed data, good to go.

I like a 240 grain LSWC over 10-12 grains of Unique with a Winchester large pistol primer. Winchester primers are recommended for standard and magnum loads.

I've run 7 to 11.4 grains of Unique under a 240. Strictly the 11.4 these days, I'm using 180 LRNFPs and some less-favored powder for my mild loads these days.

Agree with Fred, starting jacketed data with a midrange powder would be a good place to start. If you're looking for a very mild plinker, you could load down quite a bit--take a gander at .44 Special data for a 200-grain jacketed. Unique won't complain if you load it down.

For 200 grain plated bullets, 10 to 13 grains of Unique will be OK. Will be in the 1300+ ft/sec range at the top end, around 1000 ft/sec at the lower, depending upon your specific gun. I more often go down to around 8 grains for 44 Special-level loads using 180 grain lead bullets in .44 Mag cases.

My 4" 629 loves 9.6 gr of Unique under 240 gr cast SWC and/or 240 gr Berrys PFP's. Easy shooting but stout enough to have fun with.

Also use that same load under 208 gr Full WC's with great results. Guessing it be a nice load using 200 gr bullets as well.

For pleasant and accurate shooting, start at 7.0 and work up to what you like. I use 7.0 in the 41, 44 and 45 Colt.

For light recoil,your bullet on top of 8.5gr will do the job and still have respectable ooomph.

I use 9.5 grains of Unique under a Lee mold cast 200 grain no gas check bullet in my Redhawk. It is a mild, accurate, inexpensive plinker load.

Reload for 44 mag Unique powder?
