Greetings!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to purchase a thousand Hornady 9mm 125 gr HAP bullets. I jumped on these before I had done any research on load data. (Shame on me, considering the circumstances of the day?) I have now found out that these bullets have been discontinued by Hornady, and the loads listed online at Hogdgon's Reloading Data appear to be a little anemic with either: Unique, WW231, or CFE Pistol, the powders that I have readily at hand.

I currently have the Hornady X reloading manual, and this bullet is not listed. I am hoping that load data for this bullet is in either the Hornady IX or VIII manuals. If someone here has either of those manuals, could you please confirm whether these manuals list loads for this bullet, and might you be willing to share a picture of that data?

As always, thanks in advance for your help!

I load the 125grn . HAP with 4.8 gr of CFE Pistol(max load from Hodgdon data). At almost 1100 fps, I wouldn't exactly call it anemic. The data for some of the other powders does seem on the light side, though.
Hornady has no loads for it in their 9th edition.
Funny, because they list it in the 38 Super data.

Here is a picture of the Berry THP bullet that will sub for the HAP in test.

It has two OAL listed and I found that my best accuracy came with a 1.075" OAL but with this deep seating you will find that the "Ball" type powder will work best for light to full loads, due to case volume.

Good loading.

The 125 gr bullet is pretty much the same as a 124 gr XTP(without the hole) just use 124 gr XTP data for it. Or any other 124 gr fmj, COL may vary a bit.

Why do you "think" Hodgdon data is not viable??

I believe the 125 gr HAP was originally designed for the 38 super and weight was to insure competition power factor calculations and all that fun stuff.

I have a load with CFEp and 125HAP where I load 4.8gr of powder, S&B SP primer that averages 1,165fps and a 2" spread at 20 yards. They can be pushed faster but this is a load that my 1911 runs well with.

One of my best, most accurate 124XTP loads just happens to be 5.3gn (max) of CFE-Pistol. Here's the page from Hornady's latest.

If by chance you are shooting a 5" barrel...........

my loads went down hill after 1,000 fps and the bullet did well with many powders if the fps was around 1060fps for a light target load, with a OAL of 1.075"....... no taper crimp, just remove the case belling.

With this OAL the old Hodgdon maximum load data is no problem and very accurate in my 5 & 3.5" pistols.

In checking out the recommended loads using WW231 and Unique, max load velocity was under1000 fps, and when using WW231, the maximum velocity didn't break 900fps. If I remember correctly, 9mm firing 147gr bullets can be loaded to generate velocities in the 900 fps range.

I used a OAL that was even longer than the Hodgdon/Hornady data and with a compressed load of Green Dot and Unique powder, I never got past 1096 fps........
while w231 and Bullseye gave a lot more fps.

My maximum load came with BE-86 at 1220 but as mentioned, my most accurate load was at 1096 fps with Green Dot in the 5" pistol. The 3.5" liked CFEp powder for best accuracy.

Some 9mm pistols shoot the very short OAL loads ok but my pistol refuse and even loose fps with full loads.

Stay safe.
