I just used up the last of my old standard 38 Special load using Star HBWC bullets. I did a search for the Star bullets in an attempt to buy more but can not even find a mention of them. Does anyone know what happened to Star. Where can I find some to buy or are they out of business?

Seems like it's always been this way, but many cast bullet makers go under, some much quicker than others. The reasons are unknown to me, but apparently it's tough to survive in that industry. The ones that do last must be doing everything right.

Hahaha... Star has been out of business since probably the early 1990’s I will guess. I’m not certain exactly when they stopped.

Fantastic HBWC and I’m still eating through my supply of them, they get their action in my Model 52’s.
 
Thanks, I was afraid the were out of business, really made a good bullet. I have some Zero but don’t like them as much as the Star. Guess they will have to do.
 
There was a guy<last Friday?>was trying to swap some Star wc for some 9mm. Cant remember the forum. He had a photo of 5 different boxes in his post. C.Bs? It may have been here. I have some but saving for hard times.

I think I still have some from the 70's when I shot bullseye. From WAY back in my very old memory, I think that they had a caution on their label that their lube contained arsenic.... Maybe THAT's why I can't remember anything anymore :-)

Still have a few from my PPC pistol team days back in the 1970's. Very consistent and accurate reloads. We used to buy them by the case, and also used them for practice and quals. during the revolver carrying days on the department. Fired many, many thousands of these.




 
A lot of the lead bullet companies have gone away. I never tried Star but I did shoot pallets of National Bullet Company’s 148 grain HBWC. They were local to me and I could order them for pick up. They went under about the same time as Star.

My solution was to use three, 2 cavity bullet molds in rotation and cast a bunch at a sitting. 150 grain DEWCs over 2.8 grains of Bullseye. I used those and kept my average score. If I were to do it again I would probably use two six cavity molds.

I really liked the dubble end recess of the Star 148 lead HBwc bullet design.

There was no way to load it wrong and it gave me great accuracy in all my 38 loads.

I also hate it when a company goes out of business or stops making a certain style bullet that your weapons due well with.

One reason to stock up on a "Good" bullet or powder if possible.

I have one box of 38 special with the 148 Star bullet left at my disposal.

They were sweet, while they lasted.
 
YEP STAR IS CLOSED AND THE OWNERS JIM RUSSEL AND HIS WIFE HAVE PASSED.

I HAVE USED PRECISION DELTA 148GR HBWC. I WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN. NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE.

ZERO'S ARE VERY GOOD AND ARE NORMALLY AVAILABLE.

REMINGTON ARE THE BEST BEING MADE NOW. BUT HARDLY EVER IN STOCK AND VERY DIRTY TO LOAD. GUM UP DIES TO THE POINT IT CHANGES THE BULLET SEATING DEPTH. BUT WORTH IT AT 50YDS. JP

I still have about 100 rounds loaded but thought it was time to load a few more. Will see how the Zero’s shoot.
