I can not remember where I saw the link or file or download or whatever it was that someone had posted but it was of some very old 800x 44mag loads and it may have been Lyman or Speer data but I swear I remember seeing a 200gr load for something like 17.4gr (max) of 800x. Was it here that someone posted this? I think it was a scan from a page from a load manual. Maybe it was a 240gr bullet, cant remember.

Ive loaded some hot hot 44mag loads with H800x and theyve really performed phenomenally,SDs of 3 and ES of 9 over 6 shots and accuracy was very acceptable.

Anyone know of what I speak? The old 800x load data I mean. If you know of or have it could you please post it again?

I am out of 800-x, for over twelve years, but I did use it in my 38 & 357 loads.
Great powder for top fps but it was the worst at metering through my Pacific.

My data only list 700-x for the 44 Mag.
Hope you can get an answer.

Oh yeah, meters like **** but in the 10mm and lately the 44mag it has done great by me, I like it. Glad I bought 8lbs of it right before it was discontinued. Im not only getting great velocities but decent accuracy and low numbers where we want low numbers. Luck? Maybe my guns just like it?

I used 800X for handicap trap loads and high velocity hunting loads. It metered well enough in my MEC shotshell reloader but didn't do well in my RCBS powder measure for .357 Magnum loads. I believe it is a function of large flake size compared with small charge weights in pistol cartridges that cause the difficulties.

I recall using a "warm" published .44 Magnum load with a 240 gr. SWC and 800X in my Rossi 92. The loads were pretty hot and I promptly experienced my one and only case head separation with this rifle. Be very careful with maximum loads and this powder.

800X & 4756 do not like to be crowded . 800X is also IMHO a weigh every charge powder , it's biggest grace was it used to be cheap . It does give good accuracy , is lead friendly , but work up carefully . I've had it get squirelly with .2gr difference in 357 . Like Blue Dot it has ( to me anyway ) a narrow range of what it does well .

Rogeronimo, would you happen to have that manual? Are you saying that the Lee#2 lists that max charge? Would be awesome to see it again so I know I wasnt hallucinating. When was the #2 manual published?

When I use 800x I trickle every charge. Heck, I trickle many different powders, Im so OCD I do it for fun. Rifle rounds? You better believe it. I must have a different philosophy about reloading than most.

When I got way up there with 800 Id go up in .1gr increments looking for any warning I could and didnt see any other than the Fed primers looking a bit flat, but no cratering, no flow, nothing really.

Im certainly going to continue, I like 800x. Got it for my 10mm, all 8lbs but the 44s like it too, and so do it. It also has the best smell when ignited. Weird I know.

I should have clarified. Lee has published data, but nothing as stiff as you are remembering. I have the no. 2 Lee, and mid 15's seems to be the max at 200 gr., low 15's at 240 gr., though I'm relying on memory here.

I have some old IMR data pamphlets. Here is the 240gr data:

BillBro: have you been taking any hallucinatories...?

You just may be confusing this with a different powder or caliber...? Not a lot of data for 800-X in bigger faster calibers than 44 Magnum, BTW.

A LOT more 296 (as in +10gr) can get you another 100fps with a 240gr Nosler JHP, but why....? Plus 200fps with a 200gr Nosler JHP bullet, but 13gr more powder!

CHEERS!

44 mag 800X needs hand weighed

Steve's pages has 17.4 grs 800X.

1999 IMR data has maximum at 15.5 grs for 200 gr Speer .

IMR 800X has been discontinued in 2020.

Ah, thank you, all of you. I believe thats where I saw it too. My memory is getting old with the rest of me I guess. Went to Steves Pages and looked a bit but havent located it yet, but I will eventually.
There are a few sites like Steves Pages, guys just putting together many interesting links theyve found over the years and they are always very interesting.
Again, I thank yall. I was really hoping I wasnt loosing my mind, though some believe I have for shooting such a load. And, I may be.
