32 S&W long
I have a friend that has 30 rounds of 32 headstamped 32 S&W long, marked SAKO also. It is a rimless cartridge. I never heard of a rimless 23 S&W long. Anyone have any thoughts on this cartridge?

edit: I'll check with him tomorrow, have him double check rim or rimless, he told me rimless.
Edit: Problem solved, The ammo was made to shoot in the French M35L. He sent pictures and they show a 32 S&W long that was trimmed shorter, rim turned down, new extractor cut and case taper sized to 7.62. He was cleaning out his safe and found the French semiautomatic and remembered that a friend gave him the ammo to shoot in that particular gun. He said it was so long ago that he had totally forgotten he had that gun.

What's the length of the cases that have no rim?

Did you intend to say IS IT a rimless cartridge instead of IT IS, because the cartridges in the box in the photo you posted are certainly normal rimmed .32 S&W Long! I have been shooting this caliber for over 60 years but have never seen SAKO brand before!

Interesting. I looked them up and found there's a SAKO semi-auto 32 S&W long pistol called the Tri-Ace. SAKO may have made a semi-rimmed or rimless ammo specifically for their target pistol, or perhaps someone modified the rim to function more reliably. .

It could be something like the .38 Special vs. the .38 AMU, a proprietary cartridge.
I have a few old boxes of Sako .38 Special ammo somewhere. I haven’t seen any Sako handgun ammo for a long time but It did exist.

Could they be 32 S&W long cartridges modified to work in a French MAB 7.65 long automatic?

I actually owned a TriAce and can vouch for the fact that it used ordinary 32 SWL ammo and not some special cartridge.

There are several European semi-automatic target pistols chambered for the .32 S&W Long including Hammerli and the Walther GSP. They all use the standard rimmed cartridge! Your friend is simply mistaken! Tell him to look again.
Anyone who guesses at what "might have been" to justify a mistaken identification of any item is being silly at best and foolish at worst, take your pick. There simply is no rimless version of .32 S&W Long for any European target pistol.
So far as the French MAB cartridge is concerned simply look at the "New" .30 Super Carry. It is basically a copy of the French cartridge, which is nothing more than the cartridge for the WW I era "Pederson Device" for the Springfield rifle, The only real difference is the pressure level the .30 S.C. is loaded to.

Get your friend to post a few photo's of the rimless 32 S&W Long he has ... and for goodness sake ...take them out of the box .
The 30 SC is loaded to a surprisingly High Pressure level 52,000 psi !
that's getting close to 223 pressure of 55,000 psi. So even if 30 SC rounds fit in one of these "target" 32 pistols ...Don't be acting the fool !

Thanks for settling that question! I have heard of that conversion before. The problem is the 32 French long auto is unique, but basically no more powerful than 32 ACP! That is a case of Ammo Control is Gun Control!
