Does anyone have a shell holder chart for the old Lee hand primer tool? These are the shell holders that use letters rather than numbers. I am interested in the shell holders for .45 ACP and .44 Special.
Thanks.

A quick Google search of “Lee alphabetic shell holder chart” yielded a number of results. Among them, the same question on the Castboolits forum with a complete list. If I read it correctly, it shows H for .45 ACP and K for .44 Spcl. (You might want to check that.)

Beat me to it. I just dug out a tool from my "obsolete tools box". The manual was not to be found. "H" did indeed fit a 45 ACP case. I never had a 44.

Glad to see one of those charts again. They were on the back of the card 0n which shell holders were sold. I have gathered up what I hope is a lifetime supply of the tools and holders plus some spare parts. I collect re- and decappers and for pistol calibers especially find these oldest Lee tools hard to beat. FWIW, you will sometimes see red plastic tools from the old Lee Custom/Mequon company that use what appears to be the same shell holders, but they don't interchange apparently. I like them all!

My youthfulness is showing. I started loading in the mid 1980's (my mid 20's) I wasn't aware of this earlier designation type. I have several 50+ year old manuals that I'm going to browse later to see if I simply overlooked it.

As stated above, this is the group of folks to ask.

The shell holders on the red plastic ones are not supposed to be removable - they were intended to be sold with Lee Loaders and were each for only one caliber.

The red plastic ones are also a bit more flexible and don't seem to seat as solidly.

If I were going to make a hand priming tool I'd copy the red plastic one, but make it out of decent metal (not pot metal) and design to use standard shell holders. That would be a winner.

I tried each of these over the last couple years and found I vastly prefer priming on my press.

These old little Lee hand primers are nice and small. I keep one beside my .38 Spl. Dillon for the rare time that I get a primer not properly seated.
Now looking for one in .45 ACP for same purpose.
Thanks for all your help.

I have 2 or 3 of the old Lee target model loaders that I need to find that type of primer seater for. I also have couple of the red ones like Froggy spoke of

A while back I made a spreadsheet of all the different manufacturers that I use for the calibers I load. All the info is readily available on a google search as noted above.

I gave away one of the older Lee hand priming tools (not the ones in this thread) in favor of the "new and better" Lee hand priming tool, what a mistake. I'm glad I gave the old one to a new reloader I helped get started but the new one is not as good as the older one. Both use the flat shell holders sold by Lee separately or in a set. I miss it lol...

After trying the "new and improved" version I bought every old version I could find.

45ACP uses 'H', which is also the one for 35 Rem.
'D' is for 225 Win & 220 Swift and the 45ACP fits very well in it, tried it with a 45ACP.
'F' is for 30-06 & 308Win and should/would work for 45ACP, tried it with a 45ACP.
