Hey guys. Quick question. Hodgdon, IMR and Accurate all make powders named 4350. Either H4350, IMR 4350 or Accurate 4350.
I know that they're not interchangeable, but is there a reason that they are using the same number? Thanks in advance for your astute answers.

I've used them all and they will provide the same performance with a slight adjustment in powder charge. H4350 is the most temperature insensitive of the three. I've used it exclusively for quite a few years with satisfaction.

For my 6.5 Creedmoor the H4350 worked better than the IMR
For My 7mm Mag the IMR 4350 has always been the best

Yeah, as most have said, VERY close in performance, one company seeing something successful, so they want in on the action. But you are correct, close does not mean the same. Work up your loads from trusted data and procede accordingly

4350

IMR 4350 has been my “go to” in the 6.5 CM since I started shooting it. I have used the other two and have them in on hand.
All three of them have performed well for me and it is nice to have an alternative if the IMR is scarce.
I also think it is a marketing ploy by the manufacturers, I know several guy’s who have snarfed up H4350 or Acc 4350 thinking it was IMR4350. All three of them will perform.

The only thing is the price increase. Exactly three years ago I purchased two pounds of H4350 for $30 a pound. Look at the price today at over $50 per pound. Quite and increase!!!

And then there's the other side of the coin. Some powders are identical but have different identifiers. For example: HP38 / 231, and H110 / 296. Here's a list of identical powders from the owner of the Handloading List on groups.io:

I fairly quickly zeroed in on IMR 4350 decades ago for my 30-06. It was easily the best powder and across several bullet weights. I don't think I've ever used the others? But as has been said they're close.

Most of the U.S. military small arms propellant designations have close civilian equivalents, but I have not run across a table with that information. Has anyone?

Factory 6.5 CM was originally loaded with H4350 and so labeled.
Which kind of knocks the Secret Sauce Bulk Factory Powder cliche in the head. I don't know if they still do, though.

IMR 4350 came out right before WWII and was the Wonder Powder of the age, but sidelined for military production of 4895 and 4831.

H4350 is the Hodgdon copy, made in Australia. Advertised as less temperature sensitive.

A4350 is the Accurate Arms copy, made in Canada, which means it comes out of the same plant as IMR 4350 but loads are slightly different; it seems a bit slower than IMR.

My go to reloading store told me that the popular 4350's are really hard to find. I bought some last year right from Hodgdon's website.

There's one other 4350 as well and it made by Shooter's World. It's SW-4350 and is reputed to be the slowest of the bunch. The SW-4350 is a recent import to my area. I purchased it about 3 years ago.
I use it as an alternate in my 30-06 and 6.5x55 Swede. It provides essentially the same velocities and accuracy in those rifles as IMR 4350 and AA 4350, but with different weights for each powder. I never tried the H 4350 as it wasn't readily available in my AO.
The IMR version is my first choice due primarily to long association, but I've kept at least a couple pounds of the AA and SW versions on hand at all times.
