simple answer use the metal ammo boxes.
I use repack ammo boxes (REPACKBOX - Ammunition Packaging Supplies and Other Cool Stuff...) repack boxes go into metal ammo boxes 1600 rounds of 9mm fit in the ammo box.
the only concern is weight
Weight . . . yep! That's why I settled on 50 cal cans for bullets. I can stack them and move them. 30 cal cans don't hold enough. Fat 50's weigh too much when filled with bullets. I do use some 40 mm and 20 mm cans for cast bullets and loaded cartridges, but they aren't getting stacked or moving anywhere.

I am not looking to store complete rounds. In the first picture of this thread the stand is a wrought iron plant stand with 1" X 6" wood on the shelves for added support. What is on that stand are bullets(slugs) and the weight is in the excess of about 400 lbs. Not much room left in the room that I store my guns/reloading stuff/collectables in, so was looking for something small, but sturdy.

Ammo cans I use for cleaned brass. Loaded ammo goes on an oak book shelf that I made out of 5/4" oak that I had on hand.
