Anyone ever used Rejects?
I wasn't gonna say anything as I was a bit ashamed of myself but...Saturday at the club swap meet I bought 8 boxes(800) older Hornady 357 158 gr HP bullets..They are marked rejects but are actually 2nds I think. Opened every box after buying them. jackets discolored...price was right at 5 dollars a box(cause I bought 'em all). I have plenty lead bullets for 38s but I'll probably load these in 357. Been finding deals like this pretty often these days. Weighed a 100 today...all were close to each other weight wise anyway. Same fellow had a 1000 Fed Small pistol match primers for 80 bucks. I passed. I think I am fixed for 38/357 jacketed bullets for life. I've bought 2500 Jacketed .357 bullets last couple months...but these were the first marked rejects. Now I have to find more 357 mag brass! I guess many people would rather shoot 9mm and 40s these days

I've used Nosler seconds (rifle bullets) over the years and could see no visual or accuracy difference compared to their first line bullets.

I bought some 243 seconds and found them as accurate as Hornaday btsp.

Nosler 2nds or overruns I see fairly often. I bought some at an auction... 357 180 gr bullets and found more later. 6 boxes for 45 bucks

I bought reject 25/20 and 243 in plain white boxes marked reject and caliber, no weight. Only other markings was Olin and some long numbers.
I sorted 243s and trashed all with physical defects.
The 25/20s were the only jacketed bullets that shot well in any 25/20 I had at the time. They were swagged backwards which resulted in FMJ RN bullet.
Still have a few left.
Right now have a box Midway 30/30 that are marked seconds. In blue plastic box. I don’t know where I got them 10-15 years ago. Shooting offhand with iron sights doubt if you could tell the difference. I wouldn’t use them on anything serious.

I grab seconds/rejects any time I can, they are the reason I have “multiple” flyers. ;o)
Seriously they shoot as well as I do.

I buy 2nds if the price is low enough.
They work for all my target and chrony work, while saving the good stuff.
Nice to get a break in price, now and then.

I have used the Noslers in High Power competition and shot "cleans" with them. Never could discern why they were seconds. Weighed the same, shot the same and looked same/same.

I’m shooting up some berrys 148’s seconds now. They were slightly lighter but work great.

I've always seen them referred to as "seconds". If the bullet makers called them rejects, even the cheap people wouldn't buy them (well, they might; I guess cheapness knows no bounds.)

When I was working on Remington Farms way back when...they had a lot of 2nds of ammo in the armory. Most of them that I saw were shotshells with the logo out of place on the shells...some bad crimps. I had a full case(500) of RXP 20 ga with each box had a not for resale sticker on it. I shot all but a box at registered skeet. Broke a 399/400 with them. I missed the one. The others were used in shoot offs. I had seen 2nds marked on boxes but never saw rejects on a box of bullets. Of the 100 bullets I weighed there was a difference in weight of maybe 5 gr. But the jackets were either scratched or discolored...mostly the 2nd. In the mid to late 60s I bought a full case of CIL duck loads that were marked as 2nds. They cost 1.25 a box. They were, in some cases, 3rds or 4ths. but they did go bang. I seem to remember they were a bright blue color

The Nosler 357 180s I got were sold at Scheels at a normal price of 13.99. marked down at some point to 6.55 I think They were from a "few" years ago of course. They were priced right I think. A local friend who passed loaded a LOT of ammo. Good loads too...metallic ammo. He bought much of his bullets from Nosler's sportsmans shop. Most all were 2nds, overruns and Leftovers. Never heard of any complaints about his ammo. I shot 2 rounds of his reloads..He hunted with a Remington 300 Ultra mag...Holy Toledo!

Another Nosler and Hornady 'seconds' user here.
Seemed pretty accurate for me. Far exceeded my low expectations. Assembled some decent loads.

In reality, they might not have been seconds. When companies like Nosler are doing their QC checks, and they find something, they usually go XXXXX, both in front and in back of the trouble spot and sell them as seconds. So, if the actual seconds were just a small batch, it's likely that a bunch of # 1's were tossed in the seconds pile.

I load seconds almost exclusively in my rifle ammo. None of the manufacturers are going to sell anything that would be dangerous. So I buy them when they’re available cheap, give them a visual check for obvious defects, load up and get after it.
I’ve yet to get a batch that wouldn’t shoot well or didn’t perform on game.

Many years ago, Lock, Stock and Barrel in Nebraska was having a sale on factory second Hornady bullets. They had 300 gr. FMJ .375 which make great plinking and practice loads. Well, accidently clicked the wrong box, was trying to order 500....ended up clicking the 5000 box. Have a lifetime or two worth of bullets now. Paid 10 cents apiece. Today, those same bullets are going for over 10 times that amount. Have shot about 1000 of them so far and notice no difference in accuracy or reliability or durability between those and the "regular non-2nd's" bullets. The only difference I noticed that they were an odd color and the weight was sometimes 2-3 grains off, at least those that I weighed.

I am not proud. I have killed thousands of prairie dogs over the last 40 years using blemished bullets from MidwayUSA and MidSouth Shooters Supply. I didn't hear any complaints from the prairie dogs. I did wear out 3 rifle barrels but is was probably rounds fired rather than blemished bullets.
