Orange Anyone? Powder Coating That is!!
My S-I-L works in a shop that does powder coating. He told me that if they only have a small amount of powder coating left or the contract is finished, a lot of powder coating is thrown away. Told him to bring me some as long as he did not get in any trouble. The other day he brought me about 5 pounds of powder coating. It was orange........I figured that beggars can't be choosy.
So I cast up about 300 9MM 124 grain RN. Then I powder coated them. I think they turned out well. Color is of no consequence to me. They will shoot the same no matter what color they are, and at the price of powder coating five pounds is a lot both in coating and cost.

I like 'em....
I get the black cherry red Hi Tek coated from Missouri. And I've gotten gold ones from Bayou. Hi Tek has LOTS of purty colors.

I had been under the impression that it was state law in Florida that if you powder coat bullets, they HAVE to be orange…?

Thinking about using colors specific to calibers. Don't know why, but the thought has crossed my beady little mind!

That application could also be used for different bullet weights in the same caliber. An example would be the 180gr, 200gr, & 230gr LRN in a loaded 45 ACP all appear the same! In using a different color for each bullet weight the difference would be highly visible! I use different colored and manufacture ammo box for caliber differences!

I'd take free orange powder if someone offered it to me, for sure.
At least it looks kinda like copper clad bullets.
Blue, green, red, yellow, pink just never appealed to me.
Personally, loaded rounds that look like tubes of lipstick just never seemed "right".
I know they shoot just as well, they just look wrong IMO.
I've used black, grey, silver, clear, and would be OK with orange.
I realize it is a form over function thing, but since all the above colors are equally readily available, it never made sense to me to color bullets and load ammo that looks so weird.
But to each his own.

With older eyes it can be easy to tell coverage with strong colors.

The clear is a white powder until you bake it. So it is easy to see coverage. Of course after the fact, you can't tell, which is kind of the point.

I use the red polymer or powder coated ones. Both coatings work equally well, as far as I can determine. They look like little lipsticks. I call them "the kiss of death"!
