The other day I was running some relatively recently bought Speer Blazer Brass 45 acp 230 gr. FMJ RN through my Tisas Tank Commander as I was breaking her in. Back at home I was separating makes of brass to reload and realized that the Blazer Brass was primed with small pistol primers. Have heard of that but never ran across any. Not a big deal for non-reloaders but for those of us who reload it's something to watch out for. May want to open the box for inspection before buying. I'm now trying to figure out how to prime the things as everything I have to prime 45 acp is set up for large pistol primers.

I have gotten to the point where I discard any Blazer brass .45 ACP cases. I have the ability to prime them with small pistol primers using an RCBS handtool, but I really don't want to waste my small pistol primers in a cartridge that is designed to use large primers.

Small pistol primed .45 brass has been around for several years, now. I won't use it either!!

Oh Come On ... 45 acp small pistol priming isn't rocket science ...
I know you can do it !

I like to keep a few boxes around for the days when large pistol primers are "not available" ... it gives me an "option" .
Also if I have a big stash of SPP and want to conserve my LPP ...
I can break out a box or two and load them for a range trip .
Not a thing wrong with them and you can use your standard LPP load with the SPP , no changes required .
It's not a big deal ... If you dont want them ... I'll send you my mailing address and I will take care of them for you ... at no charge !

I just bought 500 small primer .45 ACP brass because I'm
running out of large pistol primers and there hard to find.
And if you can them, the price is scary high. So, I've been
using small rifle primers in all my small primer pocket brass.
I find there is no difference in performance from any caliber
I shoot even, 9mm in my striker fired pistoles.
I have a lot of small rifle primers on stock.

All good advice posted here. In my case, my Dillon 650 XL is my dedicated 45 ACP setup. It would be a major PITA to waver from the large pistol primers, of which I have 3K. So, before my last Ammo purchase I ordered 1 box of Magtech 45 to check their reload ability before ordering a case. They worked fine in my Dillon.
I’ve also read that some brass with large pockets are tight and may need reaming, I don’t want 1000 of those either.

I actually have a good use for SP .45 acp brass. I use it for qualification shoots under circumstances where recovery of the brass is problematic. I don't feel NEARLY as bad leaving it on the ground (or in the bushes) that I would with LP brass.

I have purchased once-fired Speer 45acp+P nickel brass with SPPs and have found it to be excellent for reloading... Similar success with 357 SIG..

There is a current thread discussing nickel vs.regular brass with some individuals indicating they can reload some cases "until the nickel wears off", others referring up to 20-odd times.

My personal experience has been about the same as far as any cracks or splits are concerned: my routine affords me multiple opportunities to inspect and I trash any (and ALL!) cases that are in any way suspect.

I like to have a sufficient supply of each caliber that I don't begrudge this practice.

Gee fellas, this brick of Winchester large pistol primers I got has not been useful since I quit loading ACP years ago. I thought of trading them for small pistol but since most community bullet-in boards or Craigslist etc. do not allow any of that sort of thing anymore, I guess I will let them go to my estate!

I would do it if you could use small rifle primers.

I use both LPP and SPPin the ACP with noissues. Just keep them separated.

I load the stuff.
I keep it separate as best I can as It can through a wrench in your workflow.

Might as well get used to 45 ACP brass with small primer pockets. I expect to see even more ammo manufacturers go to small primer pistol brass. Modern small primers are just as capable of igniting the powder as large primers, so why go through the logistics of keeping small and large primers on hand for production runs?

I just bought some .308 cases that use small rifle primers. I can get those, LR primers of any description seem to be like hens teeth. I jumped all over a chance to pick up some Remington 9 1/2 a month or so ago for hunting loads. I guess all WW LR are going to Lake City.

Hard to find LRPs I did pick up 14000 Win #41 SRPs which I would say are the same primers they use at LC. I doubt the Win LRPs are being used up at LC...unless they are loading 7.62 X 39 for Ukraine...They used LRPs don't they??

I still load SPP 45 brass, but yes it is a PITA to sort it. After awhile everything starts looking the same.
SPP45 shoots just fine though once you get it sorted. You can use it for lost brass events.

Years ago I loaded up a bunch of steel cased 45, I think it was wolf brand. I use it at indoor ranges that don't let you pick up brass.

I have purchased a few thousand SPP 45 brass, because I'm afraid that the way things are progressing, I may not see affordable LPPs in the future. The SPP 45s are being reserved for Bullseye, where I can retrieve my brass. For the time being, my trash LPP 45s will be loaded for any lost brass matches.

When I see them I separate and keep them. LPP are very hard to find. I stumbled upon 2k last week @ 100 perK plus tax. I bought them because they are never on the shelf. Same goes with LRP.
