hi , seeking reloading data for alcan powder 5 for 9mm using a 115 gr FMJ bullet
anyone have a data , please post

many thanks, robbt

AL-5 was generally described as being in the Unique-Herco range back in the old days. I used a few cans of it for .38 Special, but I don’t remember the loads. I’d think loading it like Unique should be safe. As I remember AL-5 did not meter very well.

It meters terribly AL 8 is worse. I used it in shotguns mostly. I have a Alcan booklet I can look up in...but Dewalt is right..like Unique

I will look for the catalogue with the data tomorrow evening. Got to go to a doctor oh boy tomorrow in Bilings They didn't post much data for handguns. Most of he Alcan data was for shotshells

I rather liked Alcan #5 ... when a local dealer was clearing his inventory of it he had the square cans marked $2.50 ... I bouight 10 !
I still have 3 cans that I use in times of shortage .
Looking in my old Speer Loading Manuals ...#8 and #9 ...
for some strange reason they show No Loads for 115 gr. bullets .
They show data for #8 - 90 gr. , 125 gr.(what I load) ...
and in #9 - 100 gr. , 125 gr. , and 90 gr. ... don't know what Speer had against the 115 gr. bullet ... but in them days it was a "no show" .
I'll check around and see what i can find .
Alcan #5 meters no worse than Unique ... If you have problems with it ...
use a powder scoop and scoop your charges ... can be extremely accurate way ... if you practice your consistent scooping technique .

I hunted the Alcan brochure up...there was no data for Alcan 5 with 115 gr bullets. . ...there was data for AL-8 I think. I never loaded Alcan powders or any others in 9mm. I remember AL 5 was about like Unique in shotshells. I loaded a lot of AL-7 for ducks Still remember the load AA 12 case 27.5 gr AL-7 1 3/8 ounce copper plated 5s in red Win wad...duck slayer...for teal i used nickle plated 7s. Sorry I couldn't help

There's 115gr data in the lyman 3rd manual that I provided a free downloadable link to in post #3.

hi Forrest r, sorry the link does not work, can you email direct ?

This is weird.....

My Speer #9 has loads for 90 gr (I think I messed this up. I'll have to check tomorrow) and 125 gr. Usually they give data for the bullets they don't make but don't show a picture. Anyway:

100 gr HP max. 8.2 gr of AL5

125 gr. SP 7.1 gr of AL5

If I find anything else I will let you know.
