Just had to try out the 41 special that has been hitting the forums lately so i chopped a half dozen 41 mag brass to 1.16" to try it out.
Could not crimp with the regular 41 mag dies so turned to a 41 AE crimping die and voila a perfect crimp. No need to grind down a 41 mag die.

Thanks for the tip - you're just getting a taper-crimp, right?

Could not crimp .41 Specials
Try removing the decapping stim.
Readjust the sizing die and Taper Crimp them.

Many, if not all, Lee handgun dies will do both taper and roll crimps. Since the .41AE headspaces on the case mouth, yours will do a taper crimp.

Jelly
I think you are correct. The first portion of the die is a taper crimp and then becomes a roll crimp the further the case goes up the die.

Redding .41mag dies make a nice roll crimp on .41spl, and a burnished (final sizing polish) over the part of the case that contains the bullet.
