Since primers are hard to come by these days, is there any reason I can't used some Magnum primers in my 38 Special and 45 ACP reloads? I use Unique powder.

I have done it with light target loads and can't see any difference.

In fact...in my club some guys are using rifle primers due to inability to get the normal stuff.

It's perfectly okay to use the magnum primers but if your loads are hot (near max)back down a bit.

Could somebody confirm using rifle primers in handgun loads?
I have thousands of rifle primers but very few pistol primers.
Thanks.

For years IPSC shooters have been using rifle primers in .38 SC and 9 MM loads with no problem. I've loaded thousands this way.

Only difference is the rifle primer cup is harder.
