Guys,
I ran up on a closeout at Walmart back in Jan. They had a bunch of Winchester 45 caliber Platinum Tip hollowpoints in their left over muzzleloading supplies.I know they were intended for a .50 cal muzzleloader with a sabot, but I'm wanting to load these in the .45 Colt for my levergun and Blackhawk.Problem is they have no cannelure,do you all think they can be loaded with a taper crimp or should I chuck them in the lathe and cut a cannelure so I'll have good bullet pull with a firm roll crimp.I'll probably be pushing them with a healthy dose of H-110.I ended up with 180 of these,so I figure I have 80 to play with for load developement and grouping and a 100 to hunt with.Let me have your alls thoughts on this idea.

Double check that they are .452". I have a muzzle loader that uses .458", and .475" bullets in different sabots. Just something to check. I don't recall off the top of my head, but not too long ago in Handloader, there was an article on a new tool that is now available to do that very job, and it wasn't all that expensive. Check with Brownells.

If they are the correct dia., I think you may have stumbled onto something good :).

Not exactly the same as what you bought but..............

I ran onto some Thompson Center Sabots about the same time. $5 for 20 or so I think. I don't have a 45 Colt but I do have a M625JM that shoots 45ACP!

Here is what I did with mine:

They were 250gr and I used load data for that weight.

They are called "Shockwave" bullets. Worked real well in the 45ACP, looked cool too! ;)

I have some loads but little data, must have been having a senior moment or something! I did find a load with SR4756 that developed an average of 831fps from the 4" barrel.

Hope this helps!
