I asked about this gun a while back. Every since I got this gun I have been dying to shoot it. I have been looking and their is several places that make 44 Russian ammo. I am thinking of ordering some and was wondering if their is something special I should look for when buying ammo for an old gun? I assume they only had black powder loads back in the 1880's.
I want to shoot a few rounds through it then retire it for the next generation. But I don't want to break anything.
Thanks for the help.

All the .44 Russian ammo. offered to day is loaded to pressure safe for these older guns, to my knowledge. Fiocchi makes it, as well as some American companies that produce Cowboy loads. While the Tula guns, as well as the Ludwig Loewe guns, are not S&W made, their quality seems equivalent, so shooting them with modern ammo. should not be too much of a concern, if the guns are in good mechanical order.
