I would guess a No. 3 of some sort....
I'm sure you won't have any problems passing it on..

Probably not any of the Model 3s, since they all had a hammer interlock tab, and this sight does not. Also, checked my .44 Double Action and does not match up.
The notch in the back is not right for Model 3s and the front section is much narrower than any of the 3's.
Unfortunately, I can only help with what this sight does not fit. Hopefully, somone can come up with the answer, but it must be from a top break.

I believe the "interlock" tab is on the latch. These target sights sit behind the latch and the hammer notch will pass through the cut-out below the blade to engage the tab on the latch.
If you think it through, the target sights are also adjustable for elevation. How would a movable tab manage to work.?

That is certainly a possibility, but in order to install, you would have to modify the barrel catch in order for the barrel catch screw to retain this sight??
Hopefully, someone will be able to show one of these sights installed.

Yes, the latch has to have a slot to hold the sight.
I can't show you any detailed pictures of a No. 3 target sight, but I do have a 2nd Model Single Shot that is similar.
If a #3 sight doesn't show up, would mine do?

S&W #3 Target Sight Photos!!
To All Concerned,
Here are a couple photos of the Sight in question mounted on a 2 Variations of S&W #3 Model Top-Break Revolvers!! The photos were taken of this Sight mounted on both a S&W #3 Dbl.-Action "Frontier" Target as well as a S&W New Model #3 Single Action to show the reason for the Cut-Out in the Rear Sight Blade Clamp for the Hammer on Single-Actions to clear as Gary's Sight exhibits!! Gary's Sight will fit Both Models, but as you'll see in the Photos, the Style I've posted has the Solid Rear Sight Blade Clamp which can be used on #3 Dbl.-Action Top-Breaks "Only"!! Both Standard & Target Dbl.-Action Models alike!! The "Only" difference being the Cut-Out in the Sight Blade Clamp, the balance of the Sight itself is identical in every respect!! I hope these photos will clear up the speculation as to Gary's Sight being for Large-Frame S&W #3 Top-Breaks!!

No 3 Target sight
Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that I am not breaking protocol by joining in on this thread. I notice that the sight in discussion is for a New Model no.3 target revolver, I have just purchased a model of this type in .32-44 cal. with the rear sight missing, if you do decide to dispose of the sight I would quite happily offer to buy it. If not, no worries and I wish you luck with your search for a sight for your single shot pistol.

If anyone has either front or rear New Model 3 Target sights sitting around please contact me. Original S&W, Lyman, Marble, etc. all OK. Also any single shot target sights. I happened upon a few New Old Stock Lyman sites about 20 year ago ... last time I saw any like it. Multo grazie. Sal Raimondi SWCA#1300
