A dresser-drawer special from 1921!
This .32 Safety Hammerless (New Departure) is in such pristine condition that it must have been kept in a dresser drawer, unused, for most of its life. Many were kept as "house guns just in case" in this manner; my paternal grandmother kept a nickeled Smith in her dresser drawer in just such a manner.
Here are some recent pictures I took of this little jewel, which shipped in November, 1921.
John
More such pictures can be seen in my 3 albums in the "Pictures & Albums" section of the forum.

Absolutely gorgeous John! Not only kept in a drawer but under ideal humidity conditions, not a speck of rust. Great find and thanks for sharing. Bob

Just beautiful, John--I'm deeply envious. Always amazing to me that a gun can survive so many years in such stellar condition.

Thank you for my time-travel experience of the day. What a beautifully preserved little .32! That's an unbelievably well preserved box.
Vintage ammo, too.
Operating in envy mode here.

Whenever I see a time machine piece such as this one,it makes me think of the era,and the other items of the same timeframe,be it the clothing, autos, music, technology in general.
At first glance, one thinks the gun looks ancient for a time as recently as 1921,but this was the era of the Model T,Biplane, etc,so it all fits in place.
Seeing such a pristine example, one can see why the gun would be desirable then,as it is also is now.

I've never imagined collecting those old double action lemon squeezers. But that set of photos could push me into doing so.
Thanks!!

Incredible firearm you have there.
I frequently drive past the hardware store it was shipped to in Manchester. The exterior looks pretty much the same as it did when your gun last visited.

Another wow! Words don't do it justice! Did you get it locally? I know it was shipped NH but the Arizona climate would help explain that pristine finish.

The gun came from an individual who used to live in California, although I purchased it in Arizona in late 2006. Interestingly, I found an old postcard that illustrates the front of the hardware store where it was originally shipped. Here's a pic of it, together with an old advertisement from S&W for the gun.

Indeed. You have to pause for a few moments to just think about what you are looking at in the picture. It is almost surreal.
