Smith's Patent April 15, 1873 Revolver

My wife's grandmother gave me this gun many years ago, and I would like to know when it was made, and any other history possible. What it's worth would be great too. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. You very nice example of what is probably an Otis A. Smith pocket revolver made in the late 1870s. The left side photo is blurred but it appears to have a "panel scene" on the frame, which is a plus for collectors. The engraving is the "New York" style popular at the time, probably applied by the dealer/distributor selling the gun. The gun's finish looks to be original and shows little wear, so value is probably on the $600-$800 range, if it's mechanically OK. Otis A. Smith, Rockfall, Conn., made numerous styles of inexpensive pocket revolvers, however quality was very good for the price. You can Google Otis Smith for more info. Ed.

That is a really attractive revolver. I've always been a sucker for these "Suicide Special" type revolvers. I have an engraved Hopkins and Allen that I really like:

I saw your reply from opoefc, about that small revolver. I have been trying to find out the same info on mine as well. Mine is not as fancy as yours, but I was hoping to get a little history on mine. T number on the handle butt is, 7144, and has the same writing on top of the barrel, Smiths Patent - April 15, 1873.
Please any feed back would be greatly appreciated...
