2nd model single shot 6 inch "update pics"
I am looking at a 2nd model with 6 inch bbl. in nickle. I am not able to post a pic right now as this one is bundled with a group of older s&w. I am wondering about original configuration and what to look for.
Thanks,
Mark
Turns out to be an 8 inch. #3197

Second models were cataloged as ten inch, but many left the factory with first model six and eight inch barrels. Six and eight inch are scarcer than ten, nickle is scarcer than blue. Stocks can be extended hard rubber or wood. Front sights were often replaced and, in my opinion, a period Marbles or other sight does not affect the value. Serial number should be on the rear of the barrel and latch. Good luck.

If it is a First Model barrel, it should say Model of 1891 on the top of the barrel.

Looks like a 10" barrel to me, and it appears to be a 2nd Model. Nice looking piece, that minimal marking on the nickle may very well polish out with a little flitz used gently.

Well it measures 8 inch and is 2 inches shorter than my 10 inch 3rd model. I prelimed some on the bad finish but it did not help. I will try flitz next.
