We all love a challenge so lets add one. This is another gun that I bought with the S/W 44 cal.

it has 0.2 N.G.P m/71 stamped on the left side of the barrel.
It has a flip down in front of the hammer that you open to load a round.
It has double set triggers.

I have NO idea. ?

But, it sweet and the second trigger is just a feather touch.

I did find some stamping under the barrel. see attached

Welcome to the Forum OnalaskaNova - You most likely have a S&W Model 3 American, 2nd Model and the caliber is probably 44 American. The other option is it could be a Model 3 Russian, or Old Old Model Russian. The American was the first large frame top break revolver made by S&W. Production of the American Second Model started in 1872 and ran to 1874, with serial numbers from 8000 to 32,800 and normally came with a 8" barrel.

To help us out, could you take a picture of the top rib with the barrel address. If the barrel is not cut, the address will be centered between the front sight and the rear of the rib. Many barrels were cut in the old west to make the gun more manageable in and out of the holster.

The simple name for your other pistol is a Continental Single Shot. Usually made in Belgium of another European country and were parlor pistols. They were made mostly in 22 and 32 rimfire and were intended to target shoot literally when sitting around in the parlor or at a shooting range. Not particularly valuable and often there is not enough information stamped on the gun to determine its origin or make. Most were made from the 1880s to the early 1900s.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your first post appears to be a cut barrel American. The second post is, I think, a Flobert single shot; possibly Belgium made. The 'Experts' are filtering home from the Kansas City, Smith & Wesson Collectors Association annual meeting and I'm sure will chime in by this time tomorrow. Mike #283

Thank you Gary.

A friend of the family needed money so I bought 18 guns that they had for many years.
I have attached the photo from the top and I think it is a model two and because you asked I now see that the start of "Smith" has been cut so that answers that.

But still would like to know more and value if can be told.
The inner bore is very clean.

Your photo actually answers two questions. Yes, the barrel has been cut, but the address definitely makes it a Model 3, Second Model chambered in 44. American. Your revolver was shipped from the factory around 1873. This revolver is actually a single action.

As for value, the gun is in rough shape, with lots of rust and missing finish. The cut barrel also detracts from the value. Lastly, the original wood stocks would have been smooth, so yours are either a replacement or someone checkered the original stocks. Assuming the gun has matching numbered parts, it might still sell for $1000 on a good day, since there are just not many of these guns left in existence.

Your parlor pistol would struggle to get $175 at auction, since there is just not much interest in these in the US.
