.38 Safety Hammerless with original 2.5" barrel
I haven't had a chance to take my own pics yet. It just showed up on the porch tonight and this pic is borrowed from the auction house. I took a chance on this one and it looks to be an original rare barrel length of 2.5" AND it's wearing PERFECT factory pearls. Finish has some honest wear and freckling, but it only cost me about the value of the grips. The patent roll mark info is shifted toward the rear and the end of it actually goes up the ramp area and ends right at the 'top of the hill' on the upper barrel flat. It just does fit between the pinned front sight and rear barrel flat. According to SCSW #3, this is a very scarce barrel length. This one might just deserve a factory letter. It's a 4th Model, SN 211178 Thoughts? Comments?

Let me see, buy the stocks and get the gun for free? I would gladly do that deal with you. How does the front of the barrel look? Kyle

I lettered a 2 1/4" barrel .38 Safety Hammerless (5th) and the factory records listed it as a 2". Maybe your 2 1/2" will show as a special order. Mike #283

Nice DA! I have a couple of them...one 4" and one 3.5". They have a lot of "character." I was considering cutting the barrels down to 2" and doing a pinto job on them (duck).

4th Model .38
Hi Chris,
Since you mentioned the Factory MOP Stocks I'm curious as to what your idea of value for them is? I did a similar thing on a 3rd Model .32 just last week, bought a revolver for the stocks, am hoping the price paid was not too much. The length of the barrel on mine is 3.5" so nothing rare but the stocks are perfect although not numbered.

That's a really great gun. Do you mind letting us know what you snagged it for? I assume the grip value is around $250-$300. When you have it in hand take some pics of the barrel markings. I'm curious to see how the factory did it on this odd length barrel.

I'll try to wipe it down and take some pics this weekend. Yes, the roll mark barely fits and like I said, it goes up the slope a little.
I gave $275 + buyer's premium for it. Yeah, I agree the grips are worth at least $200 or better.
