S&W Model One questions
Moderator, If I am in the wrong forum please move this.
Visited an out of town gun shop today where my eye caught a small revolver. The tag read model one .32 long priced at $400.00
The serial number on the butt is 4759
I found a stock image which seems to be the revolver. The grips are right.
Any help would be appreciated.
Joe

It's a Model of 1896, first model .32 Hand Ejector. It's S&W first revolver made with a swing out cylinder. It looks to be in good condition with only a few blemishes on the nickel plating (assuming the photo isn't the stock image, but the actual gun you saw) $400 is about right for an asking price. Ed.

I rarely disagree with opoefc because he is much older and wiser than me, BUT in this case I think he has misidentified the revolver pictured in the post. I think this revolver is a 32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903. A Model 1896 32 Hand Ejector would have a rear sight on the frame above the cylinder and there would be engaving between the cylinder flutes, this revolver does not have those features. Sorry Ed.

The most obvious clue that the pictured revolver is not a 1st model .32 HE is the presence of a thumb operated cylinder latch, a feature that did not appear until the .38 Military model of 1899. The 1st model .32 cylinder release was a knob at the front of the ejector.

I also hate to disagree with Ed, but that is not a 1st model hand-ejector. It does appear to be a 32 Hand-Ejector model of 1903. Without a S/N, I can't identify which model or change.
