3-1/4 barrel

black hard rubber stocks?

I would like to know approximate year of manufacture.
The ejector advance star is chewed up. Are there replacement parts? And finally, what is it worth? It appears to be heavily worn from carrying but shot very little.

Welcome! There are two guns that fit this description; one has a concealed hammer (double action only, or .38 Safety Hammerless, shipped in about 1889) and the other an exposed hammer (.38 Double Action, about 1882). Parts may be available from gunpartscorp.com, Jack First or Poppert's. Average value as you describe it would be about $150-200, but photos would give us a better idea of condition. Hope this is helpful.

It is the exposed hammer model. Numrich doesn't have the ratchet for it. I'm not sure if I should change it out if I did find one.

Your gun is a .38 Double Action, as there is no model 1880. I seem to recall the extractor star is fairly easy to remove and replace but if you are unsure a gunsmith would be able to do it. Good luck in finding the part, they are out there...

I think you are referring to the last patent date on the revolver. Your DA would have been made prior to the Jan. 8, '82 patent, so most likely late 1881 gun.

It would be a .38 Double Action, second model (1880-84). As stated, unless it is in exceptionally fine condition, it is not worth a great deal, maybe $200, more or less. More than a half-million .38 DAs in 5 models were made, so it is far from being rare. It won't be worth spending much in repairs to get it into shooting condition. Which means it's probably a DIY job or a wall hanger.

I have taken it apart and put it back together. It is really easy. I called it a Model 1880 because that is what it was called in "Gun Digest Book of REVOLVERS Assembly/Disassembly" by J. B Wood page 496. I personnally don't know and it is not marked on the gun (or worn off).
