Default How much is this revolver worth?

I posted here a few months ago, asking advice on this old S&W Revolver. I was advised to write to the company in Springfield so I did. Today I received a stamped letter telling me all about the gun. Now I know all about it, but I don't have any idea how much to try to sell it for. Here are some pictures. I didn't scan the two page letter in, but I can if you aren't able to make out what it says.

I just reviewed the previous thread; with a stock factory gun a value estimate is usually easy to estimate, but I think this one can't really be accurately valued without an in-person examination. A standard issue .38/200 revolver in excellent condition would be a $400 gun or so, but the engraving and stocks on yours may increase its value. A dealer in S & W collectible handguns or an experienced collector of engraved firearms may help with this.

Engraved guns are always difficult to evaluate, as so much depends upon the engraving quality and who did it. The premium can range from nearly nothing to a lot. I can tell very little about anything from your pictures. They are far too small to show any detail.

This question should really be posted in the Hand Ejector part of this forum, and with much better pictures.

I would put it on Gunbroker. Try to decide what the least you would take for it make that your starting price with no reserve and let the market decide what it is worth. I would think $350-400 would be a good starting place but it is your gun just my two cents worth.

If you have never bought or sold on Gunbroker or one of the other auction sites before, you may want to find a local who already has a good GB reputation to list it for you for a fee. There is a certain amount of trust involved in buying over the internet, and a number of successful transactions helps potential buyers to feel comfortable bidding high.
