That s/n would indicate a S&W Number One, third Issue. They were made between 1868 and 1881, with that # probably in the mid 1870's. There is no way to evaluate without looking at it or with several very clear and sharp photo's, then it would just be an estimate. Condition can vary the value from near nothing on a rusted piece to 4 figures or more for a pristine example with unusual features such as Ivory grips and in a custom fitted case with accessories.

If it's in shooting condition, you should not attempt to shoot it with smokeless .22 Short cartridges. They can damage it severely.

Ed - the 3rd Issue has a steel frame, so it has to be a 2nd Issue. Another Model 1-2 that is only 3 numbers from yours shipped in 1865, so that is as good a date as you can get without a factory letter. Value can not be determined without inspection or, at least, some good photos. They sell from $100 to $600+ depending on condition.

Original post also mentions an octagonal barrel. 3rd issue has a round barrel. 2nd issue has an octagonal.

I guess we will never know, since the OP is not around to reply. As Mike stated, Model 1, 2nd Issue.
