Default 38 S&W Hammerless Safety 3rd

A local gunsmith friend sent these along. Serial number 106xxx. Wondered if anyone might have any information or seen engraving like this before. Thanks,

Very nice condition Safety Hammerless. With that engraving I would "assume" it is a gun that was either presented to the person, or one of a group done up by members of that unit. I'm pretty certain the engraving would have been done by a local engraver/jewelry shop for this. You would need to research this outfit, especially that individual.

If you could determine that the Infantryman was in the Spanish American War, that would add quite a bit of interest to the revolver. I do believe, however, that that Safety has been refinished. I see light pitting that is filled with plating, slightly rounded edges, and slight dishing at the sideplate joint.

I checked with my friend and he said that the family came to the Safety Hammerless in the 1920's so that is all the known history of the revolver. I also thought it had been refinished.
