Please help identify these two
On one of our local forums these two critters are offered for sale. Both are .38 caliber.
All of my S&W knowledge is of the later guns. Can anyone tell me what these are and what they might be worth?
Thanks.

Based on their relative sizes and features, the one on the left is a .32 Double Action 2nd or 3rd model, and the right a .38 Safety Hammerless 2nd model. The two frame and cylinder sizes are clearly different, unless it is the camera angle.
If they are fully functional with shootable bores and chambers, perhaps $200 each.

Both guns have the longer cylinder flutes, so I figure they are both .38's.

OP states they are both 38's. The front of the cylinder extending past the front of the trigger guard is a tip off too, though I'll admit my first impression was that the DA was a 32.
The gun on the left is a 38 DA, either a 3rd or 4th model. Front sight is pinned and cylinder lacks the double set of stop groves. Serial number would help sort it out better. The right hand gun is a 38 Safety Hammerless, or New Departure, aka lemon squeezer. Judging by the shape of the barrel latch, I'd say it is a 3rd model. I haven't seen examples like those actually sell for much more than $200, though they are often tagged higher.

As John states, the serial numbers are needed (from the bottom of the butt) to properly name and date those revolvers. Depending on your state laws and regulations, it makes a difference whether these are antique or modern. The Third Model 38 DA could be from 1884 to 1909. If you have a Third Model 38 Safety, only a few examples were made before 1899, so all others are considered modern by the BATF.
Those are well used examples and if diligent with online auctions, both could be found for under $200. Nice examples are above $300 and extremely fine 38s can go for over $500.

No update, I decided not to go after them.
They are still listed on the Texas Hunting Forum, located in Abilene.
