BPD Top break revolver
I have an old Smith top break revolver that is mark BPD XXX on the handle strap. I can not remember exactly the three digit number. When I aquired the revolver several years ago a quick search revealed the the Boston Police Department purchased several of them and had them engraved like mine. I have decided to request a letter of authenticity from Smith and Wesson. My question is how collectable is this revolver? Thanks, jim

Jim,
Can you give us a little more information? Barrel length, the cartridge for which it is chambered? Blued Nickel, maybe the model? Or at least a photograph?
You have given us nothing with which to work.
Kevin

38 caliber( I will get the exact nomiclature tonight), Nickled finish, 3.25" barrel, black or very dark brown hard rubber grips. I am not very good at rating condition but maybe 70%, some pitting of the finish. I will try to post pics tomorrow.

They are collectible to people like me, Boston Police Collectors. Also there are alot of police gun collectors.
If you ever decide to sell it and it letters to Boston let me know.
In the meantime check out my website Home - Boston Police Fan site Memorbelia Equipment Photographs

Thanks Ben! That was the info i was looking for. I am fairly sure it is a Model 2, double action. There is no stamp anywhere for the caliber. I will pursue the letter from Smith to see if it is actually part of the first shipment from 1884. If it does go up for sale I will let you know. Jim

If you decide to sell it give me an opportunity to beat the other persons offer, you will not do better than selling it to me.
