Hi,

I have one question concerning about the exact year of production:

"Smith & Wesson 1st Model Safety Hammerless .32 cal" - top break and so called lemon squeezer.

The serial number is 100XX. Is the year of production before 1890?

Thanks!

I have a .32 Top Break Safety Hammerless 1st Model with serial number in the 41xxx range and was told it's shipment date was approximately 1892. The date range for this model is 1888 to 1902 and serial number range is 1 to 91417. So based on your relatively low serial number, I'm "estimating" that yours was shipped prior to 1890. Someone with more expertise will probably reply later with a more exact dating.

Welcome to the Forum. Your revolver would have shipped around 1901. The antique date serial number cut-off for the 32 Safety is 91,400.

Please see my correction below.

You wouldn't happen to be Norwegian would you? Since 1890 is the cut-off date for antiques in Norway.

I've found a factory letter that would indicate that they produced at least up to 20000 revolvers in first production year.

I just acquired a Lemon squeezer 3 1/2" S/N 132607. I figure the manufacture date as somewhere just south of 1910. Am I correct?

Thank you, Guy. My dad gave me one in the 1940's and then, when I was in the Army, sold it. NYC was a hassle even then , even for a man with connections. Anyhow, a friend of mine just got me the one I wrote about. Going to shoot it tomorrow. Old time sake.
