S&W model 1880 DA 38 cal - year of production
Hi,
What might be the year of production? The serial number is 279XXX.

Probably a .38 DA 3rd Model (It may have an 1880 patent date, but isn't usually called that as a model type), anyway with that serial it would have been made somewhere in the 1884 to 1895 period within a serial range of 119001 to 322700.
Pictures would help in identifying it.

Some close serial numbers were shipped in 1893. Only a factory historical letter will tell you the exact date. Ed.
