38 top break perfection??
I found a s&w 38 top break perfection listed on line for $700 it looks in great shape and have always wanted to replace an old iver johnson 22 gun I had as a mucher younger man. Yes I know not the same caliber , but again from what the pics show its 97% is this a afair price? are these nice guns to shoot?
Thanks .....Jay

Actually it's called the .38 Perfected. If it's the same one I saw, it's been listed for a while at that price. I don't remember all the details of the listing, but there's probably a good reason it hasn't sold.

It is a high price for a .38 Perfected; I would want to see many detailed images or examine it in person to make sure it was functionally 100% and not refinished.
As you know, it is a .38 S & W caliber gun (ammo is currently available, but is not always) and it should be fun to shoot. Hope this is helpful.

Not an expert, but my opinion is the price is well on the high side. I do own a New Departure top break I paid $75.00 plus auction fee. It is a factory renickel and in about 70% appearance rating (has factory star on butt) It is a tight and nice shooting little handgun.
It will be interesting to hear the view point of others.

I'll send you a PM with the link, even though it's not an auction site, can't post it here.
I've always wanted one of these, yet another thing I'll have to let go of.

That means Cabela's found a buyer and the Perfected has been sold.

I rarely see any vintage S&W revolvers in Cabela's Gun Library that are not listed at almost twice the current selling prices at auction. Does that mean that they pay twice as much to buy one??
Just looked at 2 Perfecteds at Cabelas. The Ohio gun is a refinish with wrong stocks asking $700. The Kentucky gun appears to be original finish, but cannot tell for certain with only 2 general pictures. Some finish loss and scratching on the cylinder, asking $700. I would value the Ohio gun at $350 - $400 and the Kentucky gun at $450 - $500 max.

There is one on a certain auction site for $350 that looks to be in good shape missing original grips but those are available the are out there I found this one for far less than $700

You might want to look at those stocks again. By my eye, they are original ivory factory stocks and worth a small fortune by themselves. The revolver is not bad either.

Gary maybe I should have clarified the one I pictured is mine and yes they are Ivory and yes I have turned down $1000 for it. My wife thought I was crazy and maybe I am but but I won't likely find another with Ivory grips at a price I can afford $275 out the door 3 years ago.

I haven't lettered it but with the fit and the price on the back of one the stocks I doubt it.

I had one years ago. Serial # 1xx, 98% condition. Wish I still had it.
