Default Antique s&w in 38s&w

Hello all new here, hoping to learn abit about an antique topbreak revolver i may purchase. The seller really has no clue what its worth. She had it listed at 1900. Of the finish is original im thinking more like 300. I am abit unfamiliar with this particular model. I did have one similar this long ago. Any help is greatly appreciated.have never seen plated trigger before.

Welcome to the forum that is a .38 Double Action 4th Model made 1895-1909 serial number range 322701-539000. The one shown has a post factory refinish and after market pearl grips. Brand new in the box it wouldn't bring what she is asking not even close. I would think $300 would be a more than reasonable offer if it functions well.

Thank you for the information, i was concerned about the grios as well as finish. After seeing one at a dealers shop in much better shape and completely original for 250,, im thinking 200 Would be more than fair for a refurb.

Gun values tend to be localized. Around here in SC, this would be 150.00 to 200.00 on the high side. The last one I bought was a renickled safety hammerless 80.00 out the door. Tight as a drum. I have a few of these and have never paid over 175.00 for nice ones.

As said above, refinished and non-original stocks make this revolver a no sale at even $200. You can mention to the seller that the triggers and hammers on these revolvers were not plated at the factory because of the fact that it can affect the action, given the tight tolerances of manufacture. The factory also placed medallion pearl stocks on all their revolvers since 1893, so those are after-market. The fit on those is poor and would never been allowed to be sold out of the factory, and no pearl does not shrink.

You can also tell the seller that the revolver is considered "modern" by the BATF, having been made around 1899-1900. The official cut-off is 382,022.
