Default Trigger Kick-Back

Colleagues

Does anyone know to fix trigger kick-back in SA-fire of a top break DA revolver?

With side plates off, I've watched a correctly-functioning gun vs. one that has SA-fire trigger kick-back, and can't see where the problem lies.

I need help.

Thanks in advance
Geezer7

Purely a guess on my part but it sounds like someone reduced the mainspring tension in order to reduce the trigger pull. Depending on the method of reducing the tension, it would be necessary to replace the mainspring or the strain screw in the front strap.

Mike

Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately it didn't help...

Any other suggestions? Anyone?

Gratefully,
Bruce

That normally happens when the DA sear on the hammer catches on the trigger as it (the hammer) is falling towards the fired position after the SA has been released. A common cause is the trigger not going rearward enough for the DA sear to clear as it passes by. That, in turn, can be caused by a trigger stop that is too long for that particular action. It can also be caused by a DA sear that is sticking out too far forward from the hammer. There is no way to know the whichness of what without having the gun on the bench.

Default Problem Solved

Dear Protocall_Design

I watched the internals closely when pulling the trigger in single action--and you're correct.

The rear-most notch on the hammer was not deep enough to hold the cocked hammer back until the sear cleared the fore-most hammer notch. This caused the full force of the main spring not only to pull the hammer forward, but also to pull the trigger forward.

None of my jewelers files were fine enough to maintain the 75 degree angle necessary for the rear-most hammer notch. So I very carefully used a dremel cutting wheel to deepen the notch.

Now the SA trigger pull has some creep, but there's no hammer "push-off" or "kick-back".

Gratefully
Bruce
