It appears your .38 double Action Fourth Model has been painted, probably a long time ago. Assuming the gun is in otherwise functional condition, I'd say $250 is reasonable. IMHO, of course.
The gun looks like its been buffed and then painted. They were originally finished in blue and nickel. Makes me wonder if its a put together gun from parts of different guns. I personally would not buy any gun that was painted.
I found in that period Hopkins & Allen made very similar firearms. The entry level were nickel finished, but the one that cost the extra dollar or so were blued.

I ended up paying $200. The frame serial matches the cylinder. The paint is a black enamel that is flaking off.
