Default S&W Rubber Grips Imitation?

Hi There,

I just won an auction for a pair of grips that purport to be of S&W
manufacture. At preset, all I have are the auction photos. If in-
terested, I'll post better pics after I receive them.

I bought them because I assume they are counterfeit and there
is something of the 8 pointed star motif around the escutcheon
that looks familiar. Can anybody shed more light on this?

Cheers!
Webb

Even blowing these up as far as I can I cannot see the logo well enough to say what it says. It may closely resemble the S&W logo or be similar. Don't know what they are but are probably Spanish. You can call them replacements, copies, etc. but counterfeit is not the correct term in any way. They are definitely not S&W items.

I will say it is counterfeit since the S&W logo appears to be a direct copy of the top round logo on S&W revolvers. Could be off a S&W copy made in Spain or Europe. I want to say American Revolver Company, US Revolver Company, Iver Johnson, and Forehand Wadsworth had screw circles decorated like that set but not the top round logo that shows in the picture. I can make out an S and a W and maybe a U S in the outer round, but I would contend it is a definite attempt at copying the S&W logo.

Hi There,

I agree the pics are not the best but until they are delivered, these
are the best pics I have. I've been wracking my brain trying to
remember where I've seen that style of escutcheon decoration.
I figured some of you would know.

Thanks for all the help!

Cheers,
Webb

The easiest way to tell if it's original hard rubber is to SMELL the grips. Yes, with your NOSE.

The old hard rubber vulcanization process used sulfur. If you rub the grups with your palm for 5 seconds to warm it up, you should be able to smell the sulfur on original grips.

I cleared up the picture and sent it to a friend who is an expert on Spanish firearms to see if it is from a Spanish revolver.

Default Imitation S&W

I’ve seen these before. They are foreign made for double action knock offs. I posted a set of Pearl grips with a brass insert having this identical logo.
These were sold in the USA at many Major Distributor house as Imitation Smith & Wesson revolvers for half the price. Cheapees.

Every advertisement always listed them as imitations.

For one thing there is no hole for the locating pin at the bottom.
