In April, Santa Claus drives a brown delivery van
This arrived this morning, courtesy of UPS. A No 1 Second Issue revolver, claimed to be F W Martin engraved. I’m not sure if he did it, or Richard Bates Inshaw, or another engraver. Shipped September 1866.
When I opened up the package, to say it took my breath away is an understatement!

And a second box arrived, and I didn’t know what was in it. Of course, the box of ammunition! Wouldn’t want this revolver to fall into the wrong hands and someone ends up committing a crime of epic proportions.🤣

No letter, just a ship date response from Roy.
I’m fairly certain a letter would just give the exact date shipped in September of 1866 to J W Storrs, Smith & Wesson’s sole distributor at that time, prior to shipment to London, England soon thereafter.

Research reveals the box of ammunition, while appropriate for this revolver, postdates it by approximately 40 years.

How do I get my wife to share my enthusiasm?
Although, I’ll admit, when she saw the engraving, she said it was pretty cool.

Absolutely stunning. Dare I ask where you found such a beautiful package and what one would have to mortgage to acquire such a gem??? Now that I am no longer working full time the acquisition fund has taken a huge hit but I still like to understand.

I purchased it at auction recently. The best things in life don’t come cheap. The price, for what it is, was fair.

I think actually shooting that one might be "a crime of epic proportions"
Really nice to have the ammo.
