Welcome! It appears to be a .38 Double Action from sometime in the early 1890s.

Markings?
Any markings on the backstrap? That’s the long metal piece that spilts the back side of the grips?

Hi There,
Welcome to our Group!
Assuming it is a .38, you have a S&W .38 DA (for Double Action)
Third Model. These were manufactured from 1884 to 1895. Your
serial number places it about 2/3 of the way from the beginning.
That would mean yours was manufactured around 1890 to 1894.
Cheers!
Webb

I think wlw meant 1890 to 1894. It would fire 38 S&W caliber black powder rounds - not 38 S&W Special.

Yes, you're right. I'll edit it and hide my shame!

Absolutely! These were .38 S&W which is shorter
and less powerful.
Cheers!
