It is the 2th model safety Hammerless made between 1887 and 1890.
The numbering started by 5251 and stops at 42483.

you can order ammo for the .38 S&W and the .32 S&W from old western scrounger .I beleive the .38s are about 28.00/50 and the .32s were about 24.50 for 50ct . about 3bucks a box to ship.

Welcome to the Forum. You do have a 38 Safety Hammerless, Third Model, shipped in 1898 and is considered an antique by the BATF. Antique cut-off is serial # below 119,900.

It is always best to start a new Thread and not trample other's posts. It can get quite confusing talking about multiple guns. I assume you have a 38 S&W Safety? If so, it is a Third Model, shipped in 1891. As for checking with dealers, most of them cannot even identify these guns correctly, let alone establish a ship date from the factory.
