How to make your day without even trying...
As I was walking into the Dallas Mkt. Hall show this morning a friend whispered to me: "Check with *****. He has one of those screwdrivers you are always asking about."
Shortly thereafter I was the proud owner of a nice little Registered Magnum sight adjustment tool.
The show was made for me before I ever got to my table so I just sat around and smiled at everyone and visited the rest of the day.

Good for you Bob. I'd have loved to have been there, just to watch the transaction.

Didn't get a picture, Leonard. It's in the case on my table. A little bluing wear on the edges of the blade tip but otherwise in excellent condition. The wear is understandable in that the seller had found it in a huge flea market in a jar with a lot of reloading dies (First Monday at Canton, for those in TX).
Mike, wish you could have been here too but there was little drama in the transaction. The seller had been told that it was "valuable" but otherwise he was at a loss to price it. He had an offer from another collector for what would be 1/4th of the well known "standing offer" . I offered him $50 more and he handed it to me without a word. I handed him the money wrapped in a big smile and we shook hands.
Only true addicts will appreciate the irony in the probable next question: "You paid what for a screwdriver??

You stole it Bob, just plain stole it!!
As a penance you should sell it to me for $100 when I see you in Tulsa. You double your money and I get the deal of the decade. What could be better?

Bob,
I would have loved to see how a "professional" chokes back the excitement so the excitement doesn't drive the price.

Dave
As I read Bobs note, he paid $50 more than some other offer.
What could be better is that he only paid $50 .

Mike
The screwdriver deal of the century was at the S&WCA annual show in Utah a couple of years ago.
Geoff Moore, then one of our members, walked into the show and up to a table full of interesting S&W items. He spotted a pre-war screwdriver and asked the guy how much. The kindly gentleman told him $10. Geoff, being a good man, explained to the nice vendor what it was and how much it was worth - they were then selling for upwards of $700 on the internet.
The vendor told him it didn't matter. He had $10 in it and was happy to get his money back.
Geoff bought the screw driver and we all learned a lesson about S&WCA members. :-) True story.
Regards.
